Child beauty pageants have always been disturbing, and they have been around for a pretty long time. One of Harlan Ellison's entries in his column The Glass Teat way back in 1970 was about how disturbing he found it to watch one of those things. And his issues are basically exactly the same as the ones that people bring up now, over forty years later.
I wonder if it's up online. Ellison has a pretty tight grip on what work of his does or doesn't end up on the Web, but it could be. Hmmm...
Also: Casual racism is the most annoying kind of racism, and probably the most dangerous in the long run.
