  • Specifically, I think he'd hit the same chord that Watchmen used Dr. Manhattan to touch.

The movie writes itself really: Kirk goes off to rescue his academy friend, Gary Mitchell, from a weird space crash in the boondocks of the universe. Gary, once rescued, starts acting all weird and Spock notices it, but Kirk doesn't because he and Gary are bros. And the whole movie is about Kirk accepting that the Gary Mitchell he knows is effectively gone. Oh, and there are bits where Gary wrecks everything with his cool powers, which fulfills the Michael Bay requirement of the Hollywood Blockbuster. At the end, he goes on a rampage across Earth and he just levitates a skyscraper and flings it into a starship and it's just. So. Cool. And in between the action bits are discussions about the nature of superior beings and what trust should be based on and other philosophical stuff.

It would satisfy everyone, it doesn't require any crazy twists and would give BC a proper role to play.

You should really watch Star Trek 4. :p

But yeah, that is a better plot...largely because it's a lot easier for a single dude to sneak onto a planet and wreak some havoc than it is to discreetly drop a Star Ship on the military capital...
