Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
Oh, and you can't change your own skin color, hairstyle or other aspects of your appearance. You can only customize those of your friends.
As a guy who likes to customize his PCs, that's a sore spot for me.
Yes, this totally makes sense.
Forgive me for asking an off-topic question, but do you like that in Pokémon XY, we'll have a few different skin tones and hair colors to choose for our character?
@ Gator: My gamer side says that it's another permutation of the cosmetic trophy (you get different styles throughout the game, right), which I don't like because I'm not a cosmetic gamer.
My social rights side says that it's good that POC, as they'll be able to create a PC that they can aesthetically identify with.
This is kind of a young person's rougelike. All the mechanics of your typical rougelike, but sanded down for less complex gameplay. Also, no sacrificing corpses to dark gods and whatnot.
What I'm saying is that, if I had a younger cousin with a proper gamer's mindset, this would be his birthday present (though my theoretical aunt would kill me for getting him hooked on this kind of stuff).

Mojave: Not in any games that are currently out, no. But in XY, we can apparently get new outfits and accessories for our character.
Naney: I'm pretty sure skin tone and hair color are set in stone.

Alright, so I went ahead and finished Rogue Legacy.
It was a pretty good time, but most other roguelikes I've played are better, just because exploration feels so...well, grindy is a good way to put it, I suppose.
I mean, you never explore the castle to find upgrades for your own character; you find gold, which lets you buy more upgrades when you die; or equipment, which upgrades the stats of your next character; or runes, which give abilities to your next character. Exploration just feels cheap, because you really feel like you're just planning for your eventual death. It all feels...oddly futile, you know?
Not to mention the fact that everything you get is expected. You never get the feeling of a really out of depth item, like an early Dragon Armor in DCSS; nor do you ever really run into any monsters that shouldn't be in the area you're in. Exploration isn't exciting because everything you run in to is expected.
Though I have to say it does deliver quite well as a metroidvania kind of game. The action is very solid, and it happens to sidestep the typical metroidvania feel of "nothing is challenging because I have too much health/healing items for anything to do any significant damage", so that's nice. I also have to give them props for the ending, as I found it to be rather clever.
It's still a very fun game, it just...well, doesn't feel like much of a roguelike to me.
I think the game just wants me to play with a normal character instead of sending in countless Octopode Ice Elementalists to die painfully somewhere above D:7
sort of a moot point anyway, I have the demo and it lags to the point of unplayability on my computer (literally. You need to hit an activatable platform to finish the tutorial and it lags enough that it doesn't register the hits).

Fast travel works alright though.

@Mojave: That is not inaccurate.

Whaaaaaaaaat

Granted, I was playing Octopode at the time, so I was pretty pissed.
It might actually have been a real dragon armor, if you sacrificed enough player-characters and hours of your life playing the game.
