is investing in Earth Magic a good idea? I found a Book of Geomancy. It'll hinder my ability to cast clouds, but it might be worth it if we get Iron Shot.
I personally think that you should weigh [mentioned spell] against the best spell in [magic class opposite to said spell] and decide which one's worth it.
(More seriously, you should be doing that on pretty much any non-Trog melee user anyway, since there's some really nifty low level utility spells., and most races have semi-decent casting apts. Just level up like normal, then if you find a book with nice spells, level up schools.)
Unless you're wearing stuff like CPM, low level spells will still be castable. If you want higher stuff, there's Mottled Dragon Armour or Fire Dragon Armour.

Yeah, Oka is kinda infamous for dropping stuff like animal skins and -1 hats on people. (Don't ask me how wearing a hat can make you less protected than wearing nothing.)
I'm having a stupid lucky run as a Minotaur Fighter of Nemelex right now, found the unrandart Sword of The Doom Knight (not awesome longterm, but great for now, much better than my 0/+3 Longsword of Holy Wrath) and found a potion of beneficial mutation for like the third time ever, which game the spit poison mutation.
also is anyone still reading my LP thread? I tried to do the Tengu Air Elementalist like a dozen times and kept dying super early on each time.
I say go for it if you haven't done it before, you get the Smite ability and potentially convert the half dozen or so powerful orc uniques to your cause.
So I've been playing summoners lately. Is there an easy way to guarantee yourself access to higher-end summons (Monstrous Menagerie, Haunt, the Summon Demon spells, etc.)?

EDIT: Also, I watched part of one of your games, so, piece of advice: If you can help it, don't fight in the open. Retreat to a corridor.
EDIT EDIT: Also also, turn on manual training, for the sake of your own sanity.

In other news, Wyverns should not spawn on D4. :|
EDIT: Char dump as of this post.
Does anyone else have a hard time visualizing what Vine Stalkers look like? It's not like their sprite is super detailed.
thanks Crawl.
?????
I am a deity.
You guys should make a team or something.

I know EV melee characters are an option but I tend to go for the plate armor.
Also I meant a more even mix, like someone who's good with longswords but can also use like a Bolt spell or something.
yeah.
troo
I didn't, but I do now.
OK, time to try out a hybrid character. Rolled up a High Elf Skald.
Wiki recommends Okawaru as a good god but I was thinking more Sif Muna if I want to branch into more magic, but I suppose I don't know if I do.

It was for a long time but they changed it. And I'm not getting a lot of Decks of Wonder, they just seem to be the worst.
That said once you finally get Deck Stack you can just get experience cards like five times in a row.
I leveled my Necromancy skill a bit that way, so my sword is better now.
Spoken sigh.
so I just lost this guy to The Orcish Mines (first character of mine who has ever died there, in fact)
this is gonna be a nightmare of a player ghost

Though I got by fine with just Monstrous Menagerie until I went to a new floor of Orc and immediately got socked by two trolls and a couple orcs.
Only problem is that it's kind of fragile.
this is for my LP run and we're just super underequipped to tackle either The Shoals or The Snake Pits.
