Thatcher was an absolutely terrible leader and this music is great, but dying of a stroke is a terrible way to go, even for her. So I will dance, but I refuse to do so on her grave.
I don't know if this makes me annoyingly pious or not. I used to revel in jokes about Thatcher dying in far worse ways, but now I just feel kind of bad.
The only qualms I have about this are my general policies against gravedancing. Thatcher was a terrible person, and even now her actions are ruining lives. She is not somebody I can mourn.
Yeah, on the news here, they were going on about how she was such a great ally of Reagan. You know, never mind how many people she put out of work in the UK, since it didn't make the news here...then again, it probably would have been "un-American" to bring that up 30 years ago. :P
Some reasons why Thatcher was so despised (shamelessly stolen from SA poster ReV VAdAUL):
Thatcher worked very hard to make sure Pinochet never faced justice for killing thousands.
She actively tried to undermine talks between the South African government and the ANC that lead to black South Africans being allowed to vote and Mandela being freed.
She privatised water in the UK and overseas. This lead to many being unable to have access to clean water.
She destroyed industry just to undermine the unions.
She brought in the wholly regressive poll tax that overwhelmingly hit the poor hardest.
She brought in "care in the community" and gutted mental health provision leaving thousands of vulnerable people without help or support.
She deliberately underfunded the NHS in an effort to destroy it.
So some people started a meme once. Thought it was kinda a cool, funny idea. The idea of the US America being an insane badass that gives no fucks, takes no prisoners, and pwns everything.
When I first heard of Reaganomics, I was completely obsessed with the word. It sounded like some sort of dangerous power, like nuclear energy or something. Then someone told me that it was just supply-side economics, and I was said. But then I learned about how terrible supply-side economics are, and now I view Reaganomics as this forbidden evil power that very, very dangerous.
I'm not British, and I barely remember Thatcher from history, so I think I'll skip the dancing. Don't think I'd dance on anyone's grave, not even Warden Arpaio's. And that guy's a jerk.
normally I have a pretty strict reverence for the dead.
So, instead of simply celebrating her demise, I will hope that she finds redemption in whatever afterlife our souls may go to, or peace in an eternal silence if they do not, and that her evil work on this earth may someday be reversed.

Honestly, it's not a contest. Reagan and Thatcher were both detestable people with large cults of personality that linger to this day. Which one was worse really doesn't matter.
I'm not sure how seriously I can take information from a website called Something Awful.
Any more detailed, sophisticated analysis of her wrongdoing? I kind of need something more than just "Destroyed industry to undermine unions", I mean, what does that even mean outside of political-speak?
Something with less adjectives, perhaps?
I mean, I'm not contesting that there are reasons why certain people despise her, but, it's kind of hard to really know what to make of "gutted mental health provision", "destroyed industry" "Wholly regressive poll tax", "deliberately" anything, when such words, in political use, mean basically "Did things I don't like". People talk like that about every politician, what makes this one different? One might as well say "Because I don't like Thatcher".
Yeah, Reagan's cabinet notoriously had some young-Earth creationists that truly believed divine providence would replenish whatever we took from the Earth, and repair any damage.

She essentially wrecked business to make their affiliated unions look bad.
I'm not sure how to put it more bluntly.
Although you are right in distrusting Something Awful as an information source.
Being opposed to the trend of making everything digital doesn't make me a luddite. I'm still for innovation and technology, it's homogenization that I don't like. I think it's a step backwards to go from having a camera, a phone, a flashlight; all as separate devices; than to have them all in one device. Much less total technology; less devices and machines.
Also, I hate Google because I blame them for the demise of Encyclopedia Brittannica.
These policies were so unpopular--and caused the first of her two recessions--that she stoked the embers of the Falklands to bring war with Argentina and used excessive force on the miner's strikes to boost her popularity with the base: http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=...epage&q&f=false
Despite promising to have a 'bonfire of the quangos' they proliferated under her government and her used in place of local government authorities to push through her reforms and increase centralised power by Whitehall, even though she was 'anti-State': http://books.google.co.uk/books?id=...epage&q&f=false

to be fair: it was a terrible way to go probably
also being the first woman PM is an achievement and something i respect her for
however i am still raising a glass of wine. maybe to her life as well, just a little bit. who knows.
Then again, we'd have fewer qualms if it was him.

Ronald Reagan was a jerk. Suck it, Reagan fanboys.
...then people started believing it seriously.
That's when it all started going wrong.

She was apparently an actual environmentalist at a time when that was uncool, so I guess that's pretty cool.

I'm going to assume that you're being sarcastic here; suggesting Google to me.
I'll check out a biography from the local library.
Until then, I'll assume that she was some sort of mustache-twirling cackling super-villain with nefarious plans to wreck everything.
Resume your partying.
