The point is that the reviews are so darn peppy and they ignore the serious problems the game had.
Episodes 1 and 2 were fine, if a bit on-the-nose about the whole 'government is a jerk to the poor' message. But Episode 3 revolved around the world's smelliest red herring (to the point that it was obvious from the end of the second episode) and Episode 4 was obvious filler, albeit with one satisfying fight scene. Episode 5 was better, but the big climax revolves around convicting the Big Bad of the murder, which is stupid because he has, like, a dozen other crimes that they could punish him for that aren't in question.
Are there any good locations for a game to take place that haven't been done to death? I wonder this
I think glennmagusharvey's theater idea is a good one.
I doubt this is all that groundbreaking, but I would like to see more mall levels (as a separate world in the same vein as Banjo-Kazooie/Mario 64/Sunshine/DK 64).
Another thing that I think would be pretty cool would be to have a game set in a national capital. While that probably sounds weird, I feel like there is a lot of potential there, especially if you model it off of the U.S. capitol and have a bunch of underground tunnels going to office buildings, a library, a courthouse etc. and have a subway system the player can unlock later on. I honestly think that setting would work fairly well for a horror game, especially if the power is out in parts of the complex and you have figure out how to restore it bit by bit.
Fallout 3
We promised to never talk about the subway system for Fallout 3, Myr
Neverrrr
I liked the idea, but they should have just become fast travel after you cleared them.
The idea wasn't terrible, but repetitive slogging through copypasted environments got really old. Especially since I'm not built for horror games.
Fallout 3 was at its worst when you had to go through boring indoor environments without human/supermutant enemies. Like the subway tunnels. Or the quest in Broken Steel where you get the Tesla Coil.
I wouldn't even call it a bad sequel. A bit gimmicky, but most Metroid games are.
Like, I just finished the first game in Trilogy and I'm playing Prime 2 right now. I'm not sure what makes it a bad sequel. Hell, the Quadraxis fight alone is awesome.
Maybe I'll solo EO2 with a Hexer next. I know it's impossible to solo the Ur-Child (I was wrong), but not every challenge run has to end with you stabbing the superboss in the face.
ammo-based special weapons, clunkier level design, a water level even more cumbersome than Metroid Prime 1's, overuse of cutscenes that made samus look stupid, various lesser sins
It depends on the balance the game is striking between being an activity and being art. In the case of the former brutal difficulty is more acceptable, but in the case of the latter it gets frustrating really quickly.
That being said, art games can create a compelling illusion of difficulty, eg Spec Ops: the Line, and how it makes its combat long and repetitive to make it exhausting rather than making it require immense skill.
Kamen Rider, Takeshi Hongo, is a kaizo human. He was altered by Shocker, an evil secret society with aspirations for world domination. Kamen Rider fights against Shocker for the sake of human freedom!
In my ongoing playthrough of Mass Effect, though, the gameplay itself is fine but I nonetheless have a hard time seeing Shepard as a badass marine because of the way it's structured.
Y'all should play Abuse (DOS game). Kaizo game before Kaizo Mario existed. Save points directly before difficult parts. Surprises that are surprises instead of just "oh you died because the game rules didn't work" (not Kaizo Mario's issue, but IWBTG's issue). Gritty as heck.
Uh, as a warning, Abuse is sort-of a horror game in a somewhat similar vein to Doom; there are jump scares consisting of screaming monsters, but there are also "jump scares" in that you know that when you flip a switch, aliens are going to drop on top of you. It wears you down through its intensity, but it generally waits for you to say "I'm ready" before delivering itself.
Looped as YV, saw yung Cuz, played airhorn for him. My YV goals are complete.
I remember wanting to play Abuse back in the day, but I never got to it for some reason (I can't remember if it was due to our slow modem, or our slow computer).
Hey guys and gals, I am releasing a new game this Friday called Mystik Belle. It's a hybrid of a point-and-click-style adventure and a metroidvania, all still covered in my trademark retina-burningly-colorful pixel art. If anyone is interested - the trailer can be found on Youtube overhere: Or it can also be found on the game's "Coming Soon" store page overhere:
I hope you find this game as fun to play as it was fun for me to make.
Also - the game is being released in two languages - English and Russian, and it will have Steam Trading Cards and achievements "out of the box".
i just changed the nickname for one of my steam friends from "dumb TF2 player" to "not so dumb TF2 player" when he demonstrated the ability to look through my inventory for a certain item he wanted
How...is that any different from a normal Four Job Fiesta?
Unless it means it just picks four at the very beginning that aren't necessarily one from each crystal, and you might potentially have to Freelance the first 3/4 of the game? That would suck.
It was pretty cool finally playing Earthbound after using Ness in Smash for so long. I really enjoyed it (Earthbound is probably my favorite SNES game at this point). It actually exceeded my expectations, which were kind of high given how much Mother fans tend to hype up the game.
I thought the characters were memorable and the battle system and enemies were interesting enough to keep the battles from getting boring. The lack of both random encounters and more or less mandatory grinding was nice and I liked the fact that the bosses did not have a ridiculous amount of HP like they do in some games.
I saw a Youtube thumbnail proclaiming that "this game is DARK!," and I would not go that far, but I do think there are some less than happy parts of Earthbound that make you feel especially good when you do succeed. I am a big fan of the ending too, even if I sort of got spoiled on it over the years.

~tuckerthoughts~
annoying, unskippable cutscenes and minigames
being a one-hit point wonder (usually)
bad controls
these are the worst things.
I don't demand perfection of other people, why should it be demanded of me?

Time to try to loop as Melting.

Except Alpha Blogg. Fuck that guy. Whoever's idea it was for him to only sometimes open his mouth while charging needs a Darkburst up his arse.

Also, a new feature in Fire Emblem If has been revealed: ...Fire Emblem Amie?

Well, in a way, the whole game is about love, anyway.
