I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
Wow, the Equalists are scary.
I thought the part where Tenzin and Pema's children fight off the Equalists was amusing, but it was sad watching Lin defend Tenzin's family knowing the consequences if she were to be caught.
Amusingly enough, I thought "wow, it seems like almost every episode has had one moment where Lin is just awesome". And the thing with the airships was probably the best of those--both for what it was and because of the "you are the last airbenders" speech she gave first. She can't metalbend now, but I don't doubt she'll start beating people with her bare hands.
Also, I think that one bit near the end was my favorite moment with Naga.

This last episode felt like they rushed things a bit. I'll grant that the later half was amazing, but there's so much plot that could stand to be built up in a few more episodes (still kinfa miffed by Tarrlock, as well).
Also, the birthing process takes MUCH longer than that, even in the best of situations.
Still, it's nice to here Dante Basco, again.
Friday's hypothesis? When Korra gets all trained up she's going to learn how to return bending to peoples.
Along those lines, a theory I saw around tumblr a while ago is that Amon's not actually energybending, he's just (link has spoilers) blocking the light chakra so people are under the illusion that they can't bend anymore. So if that's what's happening, it could be undone by teaching the affected benders to meditate once someone figures it out. Which would be cool--Amon takes Korra's bending, so Korra overcomes her spiritual handicap and gets it back through meditation--although it doesn't seem like there's enough time left in the series to really make that work.

Well, we're only on season 1. Which is kinda why I wish they would just slow down. I find it kind of unlikely they're in danger of having only one season unless that's what they set out to do.
The baby did have a bit more hair than one would expect...Lain came out with plenty of hair for a baby, but nothing like THAT.
Because Amon took Lin's bending and she's obviously a central character to the series (and Toth's freakin' daughter for goodness sake) I really think that she'll get her bending back (this is a cartoon, it's what cartoons do). I'd like it if Koora was able to return bending to people just as Ang was able to take it away. It would be hilarious if Amon realises he's energy bending and in this realisation takes his own bending away. Series over.

More on the blocking thing:
Avatar: The Last Air Bender spoilers:
Amon CLEARLY isn't taking away bending like Aang did. Aang bending was very involved and potentially dangerous to the person doing the bending. Amon, on the other hand just gets to touch a spot on the head and be done with it.
^^^ That's what I thought at first too, but Legend of Korra is more like a miniseries, and this was basically its penultimate episode. A big change in the status quo isn't impossible. (And, hey, in the original they killed off Jet--not as significant a character as Lin, but it's a bigger change, so I think they're willing to take those risks permanently.)

The promos for the season finale hint that Korra might have her bending taken away by Amon...maybe it's too early for this, but I keep wondering if this will trigger her Avatar State or not. If not, could her disconnection from the spiritual side of bending get in the way of that?

Amon's death was unexpected. Tarrlokk is still number one douchebag in LoK.
We (Friday and I) sure the hell didn't see that coming. I think Tarlock had something of a noble reason for doing what he did, namely, the world was simply better without him and his brother. Amon still being an uber powerful, yet mentally unstable blood bender probably helped the decision quite a bit.
Also, Tarlock and Amon being brothers also came as a surprise, but I liked it as an explanation for Amon's abilities.
Still felt the later end of the series felt a bit rushed. Even if more episodes this season wasn't an option, I think they could have focused a tad less on the love triangles and Bender sports of the earlier episodes.

So, uh. Wow.
I figured Amon was a bender by now but I didn't think he was a waterbender. With him(and Tarrlok; is this the first on-screen suicide in Nickelodeon history?) gone, what now?

"Also, Korra went into the Avatar State! Yay!"
It's about time! Though, kinda nice she didn't just break it out during the fight. Air-bending took it's place. :P
A shame they wrote the first season with no knowledge there'd be a second, I bet they would have ended things a bit differently. I still think Korra would restore people's bending at SOME point, but there would be some interesting aspects if they didn't have to wrap everything up by the end of this season.
Though, Korra running around as the "last air-bender" probably wouldn't be such a great idea...
Still, I thought it would be interesting if it turned out Amon's debending powers just didn't work on Air-benders, and he found this out the hard way after thinking he took the powers away from the Air-bending family.
It makes some degree of sense given he'd never have even tried his power on an air-bender before.
Justice, why DOES this thread need spoilers? It's talking about LoK specifically. Like how the Black 2 White 2 thread talks about that. If this was a general Avatar thread, then sure, I'd understand spoilers, as one could watch one series and not the other, but...
...Actually, this thread and the Avatar thread on IJBM need to switch spoiler rules, as the one in IJBM is a general thread while this thread is specifically about LoK

Not everyone who clicks on this thread has necessarily seen the latest episode. Most probably have, but say, if Claus hadn't tagged his last post, it would have spoiled something pretty major for me yesterday.
Chances are it won't matter after a few days, but it's better to be safe then piss people off.

So I watched the finale.
Didn't expect a blatant murder-suicide on a Nickelodeon show, that's for sure.

...Is it strange that the obvious deus ex machina ending doesn't really bother me?
Yes, we need spoilers and it doesn't take more than a few clicks to highlight something in black either.
Just putting it out there...
As for Korra, it was nice that she finally went into the Avatar state, I wish she had some awesome Tattoos like Ang did, so she lit up like a Christmas tree.

^^ Kinda bugged me.
I mean, it is a KID'S show, so not totally unexpected. Especially with the knowledge that the series was originally written as a single 12 episode season. I wonder if they would have ended it on a bit of a downer and addressed it in season 2, if they had known they where getting a season 2. Season 2 of The Last Airbender was a pretty big downer ending until they started dealing with the issues created by it in season 3.
I have a feeling things would seem less rushed in general if the writers knew there was going to be more than one season.

I really should make one... Maybe later when I'm not putting off getting ready for work and trying to herd cats schedule a time all the engineers can make a meeting.

There are references to the original series, but it's self-contained enough that you can watch it and enjoy it on its own. I have only a passing familiarity with A:TLA myself...

So, it's getting harder for me to accept that no one has invented guns yet.
They have bombs, cannons that look the equivalent to our WWI cannons on battleships, but no one has even figured out a hand-cannon?
I know benders tend to do a great deal of things that nations use instead of infantry, but this is just getting more and more unlikely, especially with the Equalists needing an edge against benders.
Still, I guess if you can make steam-tech mecha, you're not overly concerned with guns.

They had grenades with fuses in the first series. Which makes a fair amount of sense. The rocket propelled arrows where pretty damn inaccurate, but could be fired in volleys.
I can see why you'd just ignore the later in favor of having people that could shoot literal fireballs or throw several pounds worth of rock at someone, but in this series, it's getting a little hard to accept people have figured out somewhat modern forms of weapons but nothing portable that shoots a projectile.
I completely understand why one would want to avoid having firearms in this series. Though, still challenges suspension of disbelief.
i get so angry sometimes i just punch plankton --Klinotaxis
Hand-canons where the personal first fire arms that shot a bullet. Though, fire-lances predate those and canons by a bit.
Though, the rocket propelled arrow predates those be several centuries and are over a thousand years old. This basically means Korra's technology is disconnected from ours when it comes to gunpowder based fire-arms by about a millennium.
The artillery on United-forces battle ships (and likely the bombs the Equalist used) probably don't use gunpowder at all, given the era the're modeled after.
I think I could have accepted that no one discovered gunpowder, or Avatar world was missing a vital component if it wasn't for the fact that ATLA featured its use a few times, and even in canon form, it looks like:
It's just as if no one's figured out how to scale it down.
Then again, each nation is obviously rather used to using bending for things that small arms and canons would usually do (especially in the case of earth and fire benders). I'd imagine much war time tech devoted to hurting people might focus on ways people could use to mimic bending, hence "catapults", which might have been someone's attempt at mimicking earth-bending. Also with the Water tribes probably not having much access to resources the produce gun-powder, the Air-Nomads being well...pacifists, and the Fire and Earth nations seemingly having hire ranking members often benders who may not be eager to create something that would level the playing field between benders and non-benders; it could be the technological disconnect has some political issues behind it.
Welp, I hope everyone enjoyed me talking myself through my own problem with the show. We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.
Oh, wait, we're still waiting for next season... ;_;
