For four years running I made a thread for every Super Bowl. I started with XLVIII because my hometown Denver Broncos made the Big Game for the first time since 1999. But I quit. Instead let's have a thread about ignoring it.
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
The real loser was me spending the day chilling and watching magic and then discovering at 10:30 that I have a giant pile of marking that's supposed to be done by midnight.

I actually managed to get this done just in time, meaning that I did more work in the last hour and a half then I'd done all weekend up to then.
I used to watch for the commercials, but then advertisers stopped making them entertaining enough in aggregate to be worth the time investment.
It was a glorious thing they had going, back in the day. You had a massive audience for the sporting event, and a massive audience specifically for the advertisements, and the union of those sets was almost the entirety of the United States population. It's like if you have a city where half the population commutes to work on one freeway, and that freeway is somehow so awesome to drive on that other people went out of their way to drive on the same freeway, in rush hour, for fun. With roads that's called induced demand and it's a bad thing because roads have limited capacity, but with TV advertising there's no downside. And they took the induced audience for granted, slacked off with the entertainment value, and blew it all.
I did hear there was a Coke commercial with lesbians and an enby. I saw it on YouTube and it wasn't blatantly obvious.
