SO I figure I'll annonce my first project since picking up FL Studio.
It's going to be a short EP (thinking probably three or four songs) tentatively called How've You Been?
I'm looking to make it hip-hop-ish but no promises yet, actually it's looking like it's going to be another water music album. Also it will not be under the Blixty Slycat name, which I'm looking to abandon.
as a (probably too late for Tre) disclaimer, "Blixty Slycat is Dead" is probably about the closest I've ever come to self-parody. Helps that I had an outside perspective on things for that one. Longtime listeners (do I even have any of those?) might recognize the very end of the track.
So that's going to be on hold, because I just scored a pretty decent gig.
Toonami Fan-stream wants me to provide music for their original bumps under the name Midnight Channel. I'll link to the stream here when they start using my music.
Here's a list (in order from oldest to most recent) for reference:
Assorted Cult of the Ape tracks -- I haven't honestly searched for any of these. If I found any they'd be the oldest thing here, from around '08 or so.
"Acid Rain" -- Single song. I think this predates even Desert Burner, we're going back to like '09 or maybe even '08 here. It's really weird but I actually quite like it. Wish I could remember how I made it.
Skull Beats -- was supposed to be an instrumental hip-hop album back in '09. I've long lost most of the tracks, but I still have a couple of them.
"Sunrise on 51st Avenue" -- A song I've done dozens of versions of over the years, I've never really been happy with any of them. All built around the riff from "Sunday Morning" by Velvet Underground.
The Lightex Tapes: Notes From Beneath the Stars -- Totally done, I never finished this because the person I had doing the album cover never finished it. Electronic and poppy. Lots of Raymond Scott samples. Ends with "White is the Winter Night", see below.
White is the Winter Night -- A single, very long song that I might have to cut into pieces to upload. Not much to say about it, it was supposed to be soothing or something.
Songs Other People Wrote -- Was supposed to be a remix album of rap songs. Only ever got two done, a remix of Jay-Z's "The Takeover" I credited to Post-Human, and a mashup of Biggie's "Juicy" and one of my own, older tracks.
Canvases -- Beat Tape, I think there's about four or five tracks on here.
Blixty Slycat's Adventures in Gensokyo -- some very bad Touhou remixes
Sleeping Beneath the Turntable -- another Beat Tape. Six tracks, IIRC
Outlands! -- Done, I was never happy with it, though.
The Rocksteady Vulture EP -- Instrumental hip-hop, was supposed to be the debut release under that name
a sepia empire -- Post-Rock album, never really got off the ground. Three songs exist, one features our own Tre on synthesizers.
Drink Early Times -- demo collection of stuff I made with FL Studio before putting out How've You Been? Most of it I think you guys have heard in some form before. Has the original "Temple of Sobek" songs on it.
I'd also probably throw in a re-release of This Too, is a Mystery if I was gonna go through the trouble of uploading all this. It's my best early album, IMO. Might toss in I Found Myself in a Dark Wood too, just for being the only completely sampleless album I ever made.
Thinking of doing some all-out harsh noise-type stuff when I get the chance. Lots of layered, overloaded synth tracks and weird microcassette tape sounds.
receive my drums sound in your ear, it is a cover of Venetian Snares "Szamár Madár". done in one take after not having heard the thing for months, great fun, it jams
initially i wasnt sure who you were, but i saw you posting about industrial, so i'm thinking you're maybe JHM? in which case i knew it would please you too
While putting together that ginormous compilation of old stuff, I came across something I decided to immediately drop on Soundcloud.
I can't imagine how old this must be, I don't remember making it. The drums are from Dave Brubeck's "Take Five" (indeed the percussion is basically just a lift from that track until the part where I start screwing with it). The other stuff....I don't know. Judging by the file description it might be from my own "Acid Rain", not sure.
I don't know if I'd call it good, but it's pretty interesting if nothing else.
A bit of backstory: About a year ago, I made an arrangement of the theme of Wriggle from Touhou, Stirring an Autumn Moon. I decided to see if I could clean it up with LMMS in honor of Bruce Lee from Touhoumon Blue, and I ended up making it at least 1.763 times better.
Comments
Uploading once I get a beat under it.
no no no, leave it as a raw bass and sell it as a SICK AND DIRTY DUBSTEP DROP.
You'll make millions off of Skrillex wannabes.
Thanks.
Honestly I think I was relying too much on subtle pattern changes (there are over thirty in that track) and not enough on easily audible changeups.
Sorry about poor mixing, had to use my shitty headphones.
I am watching a thing about stuff.
Hold on. Will listen.
eez preety deezent.
You should add stuff to it and make it a whole song.
Add like
something light to contrast with the wubwub.
also hey, you got the same spam comment I did.
Just do what I do man.
Scroll like a boss.
I made a whatsit.
Crosspost yai
Also the original, faster version of that overly long track from the other day.

I made this for a contest on another site. Not my best work, but it's okay.
May or may not show up on How've You Been?
edit: a more current mix
I like this. How'd you make it?Assassin poems, Poems that shoot

4. Forgotten Eastern Spirit (Moonlight Over Oceans)
5. Blixty Slycat is Dead (feat. S!GNALCORPS)
I think I may have actually gotten the tracklist right this time.
Hmm.
I'll credit that to Kiki's help on that particular track then.
Honestly, it was my least favorite and I considered leaving it off, but I opted not to.
So in followup, I'd like to announce that I'll be starting my next project, tentatively called Songs From Pulsar X, immediately.
If any of you know of any good "space music", let me know. I'll be spending the next week or two sample collecting.
So that's going to be on hold, because I just scored a pretty decent gig.

Sorry. I'm really impressed, but I'm at the point of tiredness where enthusiasm isn't a thing.
Also, blah
Perhaps you should sleep.
Also that's pretty good. Rather loud, though

And yes, I'm going to sleep now.
Going through my old stuff and realizing how much of it I just never put out.
If I did a compilation of old material (some of it extremely old, we're talking '09-'10 here) would anyone listen to it?

do eet
I'm not sure I'd listen though, to be quite honest. Noise music hurts my ears. Which is the point, but yeah.
benn jordan - pale blue dot
plenty of spaceyness to be had there, its a tribute album to carl sagan
