^^ Moreover, how many of them think that their desire for personal abjection in their sex lives makes them immune to criticism of their blatant rape apologism?
pangur, I think kexruct was talking about jonah falcon, not the amazing atheist. jonah wasn't a completely terrible person, but he was annoying pretty much all the time because he was on tvt like 75% just to promote his dumb blog and the other 25% to be a microsoft shill
Yeah, Jonah Falcon was just a kindly, if annoying guy sometimes; and I'm much more annoying than Jonah Falcon, so I have to say I can't complain of him.
Yeah, Jonah was a pretty annoying dude, but he was also quite often the first person to make a topic or announce a game or something, so he had his value.

i did not know anything about jonah falcon beyond his remarkable endowment and the fact that he is moderately cute, i thought you were talking about The Amazing Atheist, sorry about the confusion.
I did want to say something further on the subject, so I added this when I reblogged it:
It is a very particular kind of wish fulfilment that they desire, however: To have the willpower to do what they have to do without faltering rather than showing weakness or confusion. It is not a power fantasy that they want, but an escape from their own fallibility.
The problem is that they are not self-aware enough to get past this and accept that this is verisimilitude—writing someone that is real rather than something desired or idealised. People are not idols or objects.
But that is less a nerd problem than a people problem. Ironically, it is exactly the kind of problem that a lot of these characters have: Madoka sketches herself as a magical girl, Jake wants to be an action movie hero, and so on.
personally I propose we use different dnd classes for each different level of the social justice activist spectrum
that way we can continue using the term ‘social justice warrior’ for people who make blatant attempts to start shit and make death threats over minor shit while acting like they have no obligation to explain anything to anybody
but then we could have social justice bards who take time out of their day to educate people privately on issues of privilege and treatment of minorities
social justice rouges could participate in subtlely increasing visibility and activism by increasing their usage of inclusive language and promoting projects and media created by disadvantaged groups
social justice mages could personally create media that is educational or representative of oppressed groups they are a part of
and then theres me
social justice beastmaster
who really just sort of laughs at people who are just really, flagrantly, apologetically dumb with my friends.
i really like your ideas b/c i think cuteosphere missed the mark completely on why people use the term “social justice warrior”
While I think that the term is abused by certain people as a thought-terminating cliché, there is a reason that the stereotype exists in the first place, and I think that the comic fails to address that root issue. This is unfortunate, particularly given that I actually like said cartoonist. That follow-up joke was pretty amusing and on-the-nose, however.
Somewhat sadly, whenever I see the bard class brought up in an RPG-related context, I now automatically think, "The Bard of Rage shall be the death of us all."

Like, you hear someone complaining about it, but you never actually see it.
