  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”

TW: Ableism, ableist slurs, cultural appropriation

i actually said "oh no" out loud repeatedly like five or six times.
    Indeed.

But please, dearest, do not attempt to drown the universe in your blood. The universe is very big. You would run out and die and leave me all alone; that would make me terribly sad.

yeah, we don't need any dead naneys in the world

    that doesn't help anyone
  • Not a hybrid rabbit-skink spirit
besides, if you're dead, you can't receive tummy rubs from anyone
  • what about necromancers
  • Not a hybrid rabbit-skink spirit
    well i suppose

but i'm not a necromancer and unless he's been sacrificing children to the dark gods I don't think vash is either
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
But I am a dark god.

    Simply a very small one.
  • Not a hybrid rabbit-skink spirit
...So do you sacrifice children to yourself, then?
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
No. I just eat their unsympathetic guardians.
  • Not a hybrid rabbit-skink spirit
    hmmmmm

i dunno, that seems oddly not-dark to me

this might be reason for an investigation from the Bureau of Gods and Godlike Entities
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”

You need to read more Saki, Bunny.
  • Not a hybrid rabbit-skink spirit
    bah

why does everything have to be a reference
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
That reference was topical on several levels, the least of which being that I posted that video on my Tumblr weeks ago and no-one noticed.
  • I actually closed that post the minute I saw the picture.

    ...?
  • It did not immediately register what "Moon Moon" was. So I opened the post in another tab and closed said tab the minute I saw it was about that stupid wolf name thing.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I thought you were referring to my post of Tom Baker reading "Sredni Vashtar". That confused me.
  • No.

I don't actually ever want to read "Sredni Vashtar". I'd prefer it to be a mystery.

This is sometimes a good tactic to take on stories.

It's a good-un, but sometimes mystery is fun.

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
^^ It's a really splendid short story. You really should read it, or at least listen to it.
  • Despite my love of both literature and audio of all forms, I detest audiobooks.

They remind me of sixth grade when our teacher would read us really good stories in a really bored monotone voice.

  • My dreams exceed my real life
Sometimes the piece of art and the mythology the piece of art has in your head are different things.

It's why I can abstractly value Red Zone Cuba as a work showing the artistic abilities of boredom while never wanting to go back and watch it because I'll remember that it's also a shitty fucking stain by an incompetent.

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
^^ I mean listen to Tom Baker's reading there. It's really quite good.

^ I am not sure that I even entirely want to see the MST3K episode on that.

For me, it was always the students being forced to read in monotone.
  • I saw the word retarded and now I'm feeling very triggered, thanks jerks.

    This.

I have fond memories of being read to by my mother as a child to block those out, but a bad reading is exceptionally irritating.
  • My mom is an amazing reader
  • That Moon Moon post was very frustrating to read. This is normally a very bad thing to say, but...

    GET A SENSE OF HUMOR.

Stupidity can be funny, okay? That doesn't mean I'm "ableist."
  • So, regarding my most recently created thread.

Today I saw someone describe Tina Fey as "problematic." This person, when pressed revealed she doesn't dislike Tina Fey, just that she thinks she's said a few bad things. Which is fine. I told her, however, that problematic is a dehumanizing term- given that it applies to things rather than people- to which she replied

misogyny is dehumanizing racism is dehumanizing saying someone is contributing to misogyny and racism is not dehumanizing

    ...

Which is annoying enough on its own, but then her boyfriend replied with this

[Name removed]….. I think you just bitch slapped the shit outta Tucker with words.

    ...

Which was frustrating, to say the least.
  • You need to stop talking to people on tumblr.

Also her response is not wrong per se. I should add though that nothing I've ever heard about Tina Fey would indicate that she's racist, sexist, or anything else-ist.

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
^^ Again, it's a misuse of the word "problematic" that implies something completely different from what one actually means. In other words, her wording is in itself problematic.

Also, isn't "bitch-slapped" kind of sexist/offensive, if we're going down that road?
  • She linked a page with some... questionable things Fey has said.

My point was that "things" are problematic, and to call a person problematic is to compare that person to a thing, which is dehumanizing.
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
I think that is too semantic but w/e.

    What sort of things?

    I happen to agree.

TW: overuse of the word problematic
  • That's a pretty terrible name for a tumblr.

On the other hand, I suppose it's something of a welcome break from people insisting their favorite childhood shows were super socially progressive on flimsy grounds.

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I strongly dislike that blog. They have no understanding of context, suck at fact-checking and are all around devoid of self-awareness or humour.

As for the comments cited, only a few of them strike me as more than calculatedly abrasive. The Hilton thing was pretty offensive, and one or two of the others are a bit much, but... well, that's her entire modus operandi as a comedian, isn't it? To push people a little.

Here let me find something good in this blog to snark at:
    bluh bluh
nope there is nothing being said here that I care about. bla bla Tina Fey made a joke that was not socially progressive

Well except "looks like a tranny" (sister why would you censor "tranny"): This phrase bothers me a lot and I suspect it is a recent emergence. No one should use this insult.

This is exactly how I feel, except worded in a much funnier manner.

ooooooohhhhhhhhhhh boy THAT REMINDS ME OF A THING.

A while back one of my fave artists drew this lil comic:

and this SJ blogger started screeching at her for not censoring tranny and yeah

    that is my anecdote.

  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
I reblogged that comic one time and it is lovely and omg did I mention how much I hate censorship
  • ***EXASPERATION SOUNDS***
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
^^^ That is an incredibly sweet comic and anyone that would go off on this woman for depicting her girlfriend's situation as it is should be slapped upside the head. What fucking idiots.
  • More people have said that and been killed than there are thorium decay products.
Not everyone that says something on the internet should be paid attention to for more than like 3 seconds because any idiot can sit down at a keyboard and type something dumb so when someone says something retarded the best thing to do is to see it as a grain of sand in a desert of public opinion, and pay it no heed. I think, anyway.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
    Yes.
