Yeah, see, THIS is a trigger. Something that prompts a horrible flashback that makes someone go into a literal panic attack. It is NOT something that makes you slightly uncomfortable, so can we all just stop tossing that word around like it’s nothing.

Honestly, that was my first thought upon seeing that scene in the theater. It's a TEXTBOOK example of a PTSD trigger and it's definitely a good one to use to explain the concept.
I just generally dislike it when .gifsets from shows or movies are used to demonstrate some sort of real-world concept, because at best, you give people a vague understanding of it, at worst, you give them a heavily flawed one.

I don't know. In the psychology courses I've taken, my professors have loved to show little clips from movies and TV shows to illustrate psychological concepts. Obviously that alone doesn't give a very in-depth understanding of the concept, but it's a quick way to make it relatable and give someone an idea of what they're looking at.
Friendly reminder that unless it is a person with psychosis self-IDing as ‘psycho’, that term is a slur against the mentally ill and against individuals with psychosis/psychotic disorders specifically and if I see you using ‘psycho’ as an insult, as a person with psychosis, I will punch you in the face
!!!! Yes, this. ^ Also with the personally punching you in the face thing.
(This also goes for using “delusional” & “schizo” as a derogatory)
Sometimes, people can't understand the subtleties of a subject. In those cases, a hammer to the face is the best option. And clips from media are good hammers because media is designed to impart something to the audience.
im andrew hussie. the cosplay elitest. and i dont have time for talk of cosplay that isnt canon.
i cosplay hard. i cosplay with passion. and i cosplay correctly.
this is a passion. this is a talent. and this is somthing i do not have shit-heads suggest for me to “hey dude do this” casually with no reasoning behind it.
Remember back in the 50s when they'd record like Elvis singing YOU AIN'T NOTHIN BUT A HOUND DOG and then they'd turn the record over and reverse it and it was all NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP NYERP and people were all like, "That is actually the voice of Satan coming from that song."
other girls: long hair, wears makeup, slutty, attention whores, uses facebook
me: I have long ebony black hair (that's how I got my name) with purple streaks and red tips that reaches my mid-back and icy blue eyes like limpid tears and a lot of people tell me I look like Amy Lee

I'm guessing it was the asker who mentioned "not the right gender" that got them on that social justice tangent. Which even if it isn't relevant to that conversation is not a good reason to dismiss someone's cosplay. Cosplaying as someone of the opposite gender shouldn't be a horrible crime for either gender.

It occurs to me that I've seen way more female Dave Strider cosplayers (in real life and online) than male ones.

Not only that, but sometimes it helps if you can reference something people are already familiar with. You could try to make up an example out of whole cloth, but sometimes it's just easier to say "remember that part in Wreck-It Ralph?

Sorry, Obama, but you're wrong about this, because the CompuServe developers who created GIF pronounced it with a soft G. If you're going to use the pronunciation of "Graphics", you should be pronouncing it as an acronym anyways.

THANK YOU.
My mother worked for CompuServe in the early 1990s and she told me the soft G was the pronunciation they used internally, so I've always taken that as "canonical", for lack of a better word.

That doesn't change the fact that pronouncing it with a soft G doesn't make any sense.

We're all missing the real point here: "GIF" with a hard G sounds like a brutish man grunting, while "GIF" with a soft G...also sounds terrible, but slightly less so.
But this is exactly why CompuServe chose the soft G, though; they made "Choosy developers choose GIF" jokes.
Like, in the grand scheme of things, I don't actually care, both are valid in actual use, but the soft G is the one preferred by the creators of GIF, and if you pronounce it with a hard G because of the peanut butter you're especially wrong.

Haha, that's intentional? Mom never mentioned that.
Software developers seem to love silly little jokes like that...Mozilla abbreviated "XML User Interface Language" as "XUL" so they could say "There is no data, there is only XUL!"

Andrew Hussie really looks like someone named Andrew.
I don't know how to phrase that thought better than that, but stare at that picture for a few seconds, you'll see what I mean.
