What annoys me is when you  make a point of saying how great it is that you aren't participating and how stupid everyone else is for doing so.

At some point I think you have misunderstood me. While I repeatedly suggest others follow my lead in avoiding aimless internet drama, i do not really care if they indulge in it or not.

What I do care about is when it is dragged around outside of where it is actually happening pointlessly. I do not need to, or want to, hear about your (*or anyone else's*) encounters with the dubious ideas of adolescent feminists/MRAs/libertarians/car insurance salesmen/whatever on tumblr. It is not enjoyable in any way, shape or form, nor is it informative, interesting or engaging. It is bad content.
There are two reasons I do this: either I want to see if I'm wrong about dismissing it, or because sometimes I just like to vent. I really don't understand why you have such a problem with this.

    I will fight you
  • Come at me bro.
  • Not a hybrid rabbit-skink spirit
Ooooh, I better take pictures of this
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
I have never read it. :/
  • My dreams exceed my real life
    E-punches Naney.
  • but seriously what do you see in it?
  • My dreams exceed my real life
    It was sweet.
  • It captures very well the feeling of being in a family that loves but still doesn't quite accept you.
  • eeehhh, i found it really poorly paced and not all that well written. Not to mention that it ultimately just felt really pointless.
  • I recall liking Bridge to Terebithia when I read it in like....seventh grade. I'm not sure it'd hold up if I read it today.

In fact, I'm pretty sure that the only book I read before high school that I might still enjoy is Sophie's World.

  • The sadness will last forever.
    I liked Bridge of Terebithia.
  • you are all dead to me

but seriously art is subjective yadda yadda whatever
  • You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
I liked Bridge to Terabithia when I was 7

But this had less to do with the story itself and more because the idea of creating an imaginary kingdom fascinated me

Somehow everybody had missed the real answer, which is don't fucking use GIF. :P
  • image Wee yea erra chs hymmnos mea.
But the alternative is APNG, and some browsers still have issues with that.
  • someone i'm following suggested that people ignore asshole anons

and then someone on anon accused her of tone policing

    ?????????????????????
  • Sometimes I think "tone policing" is just something people say to try to get away with acting like assholes.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
It generally is. People who actually police tone don't let people say that they're tone policing.
  • I have never gotten asshole anons mostly because I don't ever get anons at all.

The Bridge to Terabithia was a crapy movie.
  • and yet it was still better than the book.

    I've never seen the movie.
  • The movie was the worst thing ever.

You can't combine posts out of order to make new sentences! I'm telling Ms. Teacherson!
  • have you seen the movie?

It's literally "the book, but with anything you found good about the book removed".

By Naney's standards, wouldn't that mean nothing was removed?
  • is this revenge for my earlier statements about DJs or something
  • No

The Movie was crap, but you can just kinda tune out of a movie and ignore it, whereas you can't really tune out a thing you read

it's like the difference between, say, looking at a piece of poop and bathing in poop.

This sort of implies you saw a bathtub full of poop and decided to jump in anyways then proceeded to rub fecal matter all over yourself over the course of a few hours...

Unless you have some compulsion to continue reading things long past the point where you're convinced they'd have redeeming qualities...

I would accept that it was some sort of school assignment, however.
  • sorry for the crap metaphor

i meant like, you can "watch" a movie, but not really experience it, think about something else and just kinda let it fade into the background. But reading a book, at least for me, takes full effort and concentration.

yeah it was assigned to me for school

(*note: it being assigned does not really effect my opinion on it, some of my fave things i've read have been for school*)

^^I suppose, but I mean...when I saw that Man on the Moon didn't have the prose to keep me engaged enough to even care what messed up shit happened on the moon, I abandoned ship and gave that book back to the library.

I found it much harder to get through compared to War of the Worlds, Time Machine, and The Invisible Man.

    Well that's easy to explain.

Man on the Moon was written by Wells's lounge-singer friend, Tony Clifton.

    Heh.

Apparently the proper title is "The First Men in the Moon".

Either way, I found it harder to get through for whatever reason.
  • @T-shirt thing: I apparently now have the ability to morph into a donkey wearing MegaMan's helmet and arm cannon and quote Game Grumps' "Seven Asses" moment.
  • man scrolling through tumblr sees a feminist rant about hating men
    iphisquandary:

plot twist: the man thinks, ah, she is simply expressing her frustration as a member of an oppressed group, whilst hating the construction of masculinity that was designed to keep her down, not necessarily all individual men such as myself…this is absolutely not the same thing as sexism and not a personal attack on me *keeps scrolling
    *long groan*
