Now I'm thinking of the time I put the entire Declaration of Independence in my IJBM 2 signature to see if it had a character limit

Also, I feel like being truly frightened by small surprises like that is indicative of a level of nervousness that no amount of accommodation is going to completely assuage. I really feel bad for them, but being mad at Tumblr here seems like the exact wrong response.

That's my thinking, basically. I don't doubt that there are people who would be genuinely frightened by something like that, but at that point you're well outside bounds of what I'd consider it reasonable to expect mainstream websites to be able to accommodate.
It's akin to having a phobia of water or the sea so severe that looking at a photograph of a swimming pool or a still from a video game involving boats makes you hyperventilate.

I think Tumblr could benefit from having a system like Twitter's private accounts, where the blog owner could approve or deny follower requests.
I mean, you can make password protected blogs, but they're pretty useless as social blogging because you can't follow them or reblog their posts, etc.

Speaking of Tumblr aping Twitter, what do you think of their newest feature?
It's more that it got me to thinking about the tiny handful of people who are that severely phobic, and it makes me feel legitimately bad for them. How do you leave the house like that? How do you clean yourself? It's horrible.

Tumblr now sends email notifications when you log into your account.
That would be fine if, like...you only log into your account once every few months and just stay logged in...but I use library computers a lot! Have mercy!

i have a friend who has been taking birth control since she was 12 because she’s anemic and if she didn’t take it she would bleed out excessively during her period and end up in the hospital
dont fucking tell me that birth control isn’t crucial to people
and I have a friend who wants to have sex but doesn’t want a baby.
don’t fucking tell me that birth control isn’t crucial to people.
on one hand I get the point the second blogger is trying to make
but it seems callous and tactless to equate wanting casual sex with a life-threatening medical condition

I thought about it but that particular person is one of my roadgeek buddies and I don't have much contact with her outside Tumblr so...nah, I'll tolerate one bad post.

we need replies back. every time one of my mutuals makes a post im forced to either just like it (which seems lazy and might make them think i didnt actually read the post) or reblog and comment (which seems too public and might make them uncomfortable) or privately message them (which seems too private and might make them uncomfortable)
I kind of agree with this but at the same time it strikes me as an example of how the Tumblr userbase, myself included, is basically unpleasable

The issue is that, while I can get behind that post on an emotional level, it doesn't make much sense to me logically. Why would PMing someone make them uncomfortable if replying didn't?
They need a formalized system where replies can be, yknow, replied to
I've mentioned this a million times but no one ever says anything in response which is weird because it seems like a classic example of Tumblr half-assing features
I think we've just accepted that we'll have to continue making burnt offerings to the XKit pantheon for that.
Man but that's the kind of thing you HAVE TO pester the devs of the actual damn website for, I'd think. Because a solution by a third party hardly counts as a solution in my book.

The thing is, the XKit people are more likely to actually listen than Tumblr's developers.

Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
The amount of third-party stuff that exists on this platform is ridiculous, because like, pretty much all social media devices have third-party, but more often than not they just tend to implement those features anyway.

I'm not gonna link it, but I've seen that post that claims people are putting Islamophobic stickers on lampposts with razor blades underneath going around again.
And just...sigh.
Like, it's totally believable, given the surge of anti-Islamic sentiment lately...but I can't find any reliable source that suggests it's actually happened. And there are enough actual Islamophobic hate crimes to be angry about right now without having to make up fake ones.

Even if it happened once I'd expect to be able to find a news article about it or something, but everything I can find is basically the same stuff that's circulating in the Tumblr post. :\

saw this on my dash
fuck off
tumblr's really fond of the whole "we're just teenagers, so you shouldn't ever tell us we're wrong" nonsense at times

at least some things are constant

Honestly sometimes I forget that most people I know use Xkit I'm pretty strictly vanilla Tumblr
It's why so much of this stuff registers as an issue to me
