You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
The last time I heard talk of "boycotting the update" was when they changed it so images extended the full width of the post box.
The thing was, people's idea of a "boycott" was not to stop using the site, but to use user stylesheets to restore the old look. Which, of course, Tumblr's developers could not give less of a fuck about.

Things that don't affect you seem like unwarrented complaining and crying.
I promised myself I wouldn't quote-agree, but I didn't tell anybody, so it doesn't count, but there's stuff here, so it's not quote-agreeing, so there.

I can wait until we get a fix from New Xkit or whatever. But I know folks who don't, who have to install their own hacks and fixes so the layout actually doesn't hurt them.
So I just finished reading one of the many posts I've seen on Tumblr about how you shouldn't reblog or like stolen gifs. I don't get that, and it seems incredibly silly.
Now, for the sake of thoroughness, I've never made gifs. I might in the future but so far I've got other interests, but I would not be upset if others took, say, my Parks & Recreation gifs and claimed them as their own. Even including all of the good ones on Tumblr, they all blend together, and largely speaking looking for the "originals" seems like something of a silly idea considering it's all the same thing.
Heck, even putting that aside, I have trouble calling it "original content." Original insofar as someone made them, yes, but this isn't like claiming thesepicturesasyourown. This is purely from the show too except uploaded online (and also amazing). I do not get the possessiveness.
if i saw someone reblogging a post talking about "stolen gifs" i'd roll my eyes and unfollow because that person evidently has a sack of moldy potatos for brains
the problem with tumblr art opinions is that artists have too much social clout on the site for anyone to argue with them, so goofy opinions are unopposed, so they get cemented and then built upon endlessly

you are right, thought i would extend that to "people who draw fanart for major-to-midsize fandoms in general"
to clarify my flippant post i am saying that gifmaking is not remotely copyrightable, even our stupid overprotective legal system agrees, come the fuck on

i wouldn't care except the "never share anything without asking" attitude actually hurts several other kinds of artists including musicians
Both of these are also good points.
Really, I'm not one for taking the piss out of Tumblr, even the awful people (it's not like they're unique so much as Tumblr is different than, say, forum boards), this just seemed incredibly silly to me.
Also now I feel motivated to make gifs of ALL THE SHOWS, except I'm probably not going to.

Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
It's all in Chinese, so I'll just summarize.
There's a saying that goes 放下屠刀立地成佛, which translated says "put down the killing blade, immediately become a Buddha." What the teacher is trying to say, is that while the literal meaning is impossible, it's still got elements of truth. Because everyone has the Buddha-nature, even if you don't stop hurting people, there's still a part of you that is of the Buddha. To encourage that part, you need to make a commitment to stop hurting people. Even a demon king has Buddha-nature.
There's no good folks, or bad folks. There's just folks who do good works, and folks who do ill. And sometimes those who deal great hurts can no longer make atonement, being robbed of their chance by being in prison and going on death row. But even people on death row can still encourage their Buddha-nature, still deserve respect. Even if you shouldn't just let them out, they should still be encouraged to change.
So I guess it's not really my place as a Buddhist to demand that the death penalty be abolished. It is for the benefit of a secular state that has that idea of "this person does not deserve to live," and while I guess they're wrong, they still run things.
Really though I feel like the real grounds of "this person does not deserve to live" has nothing to do with the victims or justice or anything like that. I feel like in truth that boundary is defined by the state, to punish those who harm the state, damage state property, or otherwise undermine the state's power. Take us for example, we administer capital punishment for lots of stupid things, like drug trafficking, using firearms for any unlawful purpose, and kidnapping. All those things are directly things that relate to state power, and there's also international constants like treason, mutiny, cowardice, insubordination, etc.
I actually read an article about Singapore and Hong Kong. Did you know that Singapore and Hong Kong, despite the latter having no death penalty, have more or less equivalent crime rates?

This is actually what bothers me about the belief among some Christian sects that your works have no consequence as long you're saved. Quite a few people people have done some pretty heinous things in the name of their churches. Racism, sexism, even fraud and petty theft are not uncommon, and these rascals can just say "lol I'm saved".
There's no encouragement to be more kindly, more generous, or more Christ-like; there's just "oh hey if you give me all your money you might stand a chance of being a thief like me someday".
Surely the idea is that if you're saved, you won't do those things.
yeah exactly.
rather than people performing acts so they are saved, you can tell that they are saved through the acts they perform.
that's the whole thing with the "protestant/puritan work ethic": people flaunt their hard work and frugality as a show of piety, a form of proof that they are among the elect.

Otherwise, I'm alright with it.
At least i'm assuming not since everyone does it.
i don't think i understand the problem, if that's the case.
that is pretty ridiculous though
