Speaking of the "don't follow me if..." things I've seen some rather weird ones.
"Don't follow me if your name is Stephanie or you interact with people named Stephanie" (at least I -think- it was Stephanie) as one of the weirder examples; couldn't they just... block whoever this "Stephanie" was that they had a grudge against?
see that kind of thing is more what i thought CA was talking about initially, not about age specifically
sometimes you get 'don't follow me if' and the given reasons sound really weird or petty
And then there are some really reasonable ones like "don't follow me if you're a TERF" and "don't follow if you're going to compare my eating a cheeseburger to the Holocaust" or something. I mean, I wouldn't want either of those people following me either even if I don't explicitly say so on my page.
The anti-Stephanie person likely had what to them was a valid reason (an ex or a "mean girl" at school named Stephanie, an irrational hatred of a certain character on Full House, etc.) but taking it out on everyone who not only has that name but has friends with that name is just bizarre to me. Like I had a horrible experience with someone named David IRL but that doesn't mean I'm going to stop associating with anyone else named David.

weird or petty is a matter of perspective.
don't be so dismissive of other's people's quirks just because you don't understand them.

ok seriously why are you on the offensive all the time?
like every time you respond to one of my posts you're telling me off for one thing or another, even when it has nothing to do with you
When you say to me "kids not wanting you to follow them is ok because you're an adult" what you're telling me is that because I'm physically an adult that somehow makes it harmful for me to follow people who are the age I actually feel like
And I'm like "How? I don't get it."
this is a really uncomfortable argument for you to make because it could easily be adapted into an argument for pedophilia
you really need to bring all this stuff up with your therapist as soon as you can

I think what really gets to me, in the end, is the implication that an adult interacting with a kid is inherently harmful.
Like, people tell me it's understandable that kids want to stay away from adults online, but like...how is my wanting to blab about Steven Universe or whatever abusive? Even if there is an imbalance of power, it's irrelevant because the things I would actually do don't involve power dynamics.
It seems like instead of teaching kids to tell the difference between good interaction with adults and bad interaction with adults, we're just saying they should avoid adults altogether.
like, centie mentioned earlier that tumblr is an all-ages website. so it is reasonable to interact with kids to some degree in that context i think. but one should be mindful of the fact that they are talking with kids. I'm not saying that you should talk down to them, but you should adjust what you say and do accordingly.
likewise, as it is a public internet space, i feel like people should have their right to chose who to interact with respected. so if someone doesnt want to talk to adults, they should not have to

@Buttercrispy pointed out to me that most people with "don't follow if" lists are young people who are just becoming aware that they can set personal boundaries, so I can respect that.

This makes sense to me and seems like a good way of looking at it.
I've also seen the reverse a lot, where an adult will say "don't follow me if you're under 18" because they're posting a lot of adult content (whether it's explicitly NSFW or not) and don't feel comfortable with minors seeing it.

Isn't it also against the law to expose minors to that kind of stuff?
obviously internet laws might not have caught up, but that's towing a line as well.

I remember getting thumped on TVT because I used Awesome Zombie's legal name--he'd mentioned it publicly, it wasn't like I was doxxing him--before I knew he was under 13.
I quoted Deadly Premonition once, and a dude sent me a long angry ranty pm for "pretending to be on a first name basis with him" because his name was Zack, and I quoted a Deadly Premonition line that mentioned someone named Zach.
I wasn't even saying it in response to him, but apparently being on the same page was enough to convince him I was being unwarrantedly chummy with him.

Things that piss me off: changing my avatar or something from the "Edit Appearance" page truncates my blog description and I have to go back to the "Edit Theme" page to put it back.

there is this conspiracy theory thing about the spelling of the berenstain/stein bears, many people swear up and down that it was spelled differently but suddenly one day fairly recently it was retroactively changed somehow

Ohhhh so it's a meme I missed out on while I was busy flipping out. Got it.
It was always weird to me that so many people spelled it "Berenstein" because...names ending in "-stein" don't generally have a long a sound, do they?
the joke is that there are people who believe that because jan and stan berenstain have a nonstandard spelling of their surname and they didn't notice it as a kid and filled in their memory with the more standard spelling that they actually got ported into an alternate universe

He's a graduate student in mathematics
If that doesn't fulfill a literal definition of "math nerd" I don't know what does
basically, i think the general rule of thumb is: if someone REALLY wants the blood that’s inside of your body, and they’re like… a vampire, or a dracula, or some sort of mansquito, then that’s probably okay. a dracula and a mansquito are made for removing things like blood and swords from inside your body. that’s basically fine.
if something wants to get at your blood, and they’re, say, some kind of murdersaurus, or maybe a really big frog, that’s where the problems start to arise. a really frog is not made for removing blood, and your blood knows this, which is why it is so vehement about wanting to stay IN your body instead of coming out.
unfortunately this will not deter a really big frog, because a really big frog is full of things like prizes, and value, and quite a lot of hatred, and it would REALLY rather like to replace any and all of those things with your blood, and basically by any means possible.

An all-ages Steven Universe fansite is clearly an appropriate context but i'm not clear on where the line should be drawn.
