Every once in a while, there's a bit that makes me go "well, yeah, of course you should be angry about that". But most of it is, well, kind of irrational. Like the latter part that claims that municipal art projects and social justice are mutually exclusive. And the bit that takes the piss out of abstract art.
But, yeah, the art world is actually one of the most open places for non-majority people in any area? It's kind of why a lot of the famous black people of american history are entertainers of some sort? I mean, it has its problems, but it's the best way to get the message out there. It's kind of why protesters occasionally draw on their protest boards?
And appreciating art wherever you see it and not just in a formal setting has kind of been the trend for the last 50 years? John Cage, Steven Reich, ever heard of them?

I agree with that bit about museums, at least. There are lots of things we haven't gotten back because they were plundered for someone's museum. Not given; plundered.

Ah, yeah, the whole Napoleon Egypt thing, but that's more historical museums than art museums.
Yeah, a lot of that is just ranting about how all art is this rarefied, glued-down stereotype of pictures at an exhibition, you know, the sort of stereotype that mass media is good at propagating. The parts about treasures being plundered is right, but the rest is basically saying that we don't deserve art because it's not progressive enough, because it's too formal, or even because it's all propaganda for the white man (which was literally true in Nazi Germany...not so much now).
I thiiiiink they might have been trying to criticize advertising, but couldn't get their thoughts together enough to do so. Poor and black neighborhoods were and are frequent targets of things like junk food and cheap booze.
One of my teachers, his wife curates a museum up north. She put together an entire art exhibit about black musicians, and made a compilation book of the work, and I got to see the book and it was amazing.
In the modern day, museums are as much a tool of fighting the hegemony as it is stabilizing it.

Do you know the name of the book? I'd be interested in reading it.
Well, I feel like the corresponding word for demisexual would mean "someone who only finds people sexually attractive before they have an emotional connection," which doesn't seem to describe many people. The people who it might describe usually are written down as having problems - which kind of makes sense. It shouldn't be considered all that healthy to find emotional attachment to be offputting in the bedroom, I don't think.
apropos of nothing, you know what I realized about the word "demisexual" that bothers me a little bit?
I never saw a corresponding word meaning someone who desires and/or engages in casual sex.
But i always took 'sexual attraction' to refer to the basic emotional response, without implying any actual desire towards any particular action (e.g. casual sex).

when people complain about fictional gay couples having “no buildup” i’m like… so??? like even if that’s true i don’t give a shit, straight characters do this all the time, if emma and spinner can go from zero to married in one episode of degrassi then as far as i’m concerned any two women can get together for any reason at any time and you can suck it up
I'm not going to say the double standard doesn't exist. But I'll say that I'd personally complain about it regardless of whether it was a straight romance or a queer one.
I mean let's face it, we all know what this is about. They weren't interested in telling the story of Korra X Asami. They weren't interested in telling the story of Korra X Mako or Mako X Asami or any of that.
To be frank I don't even know what they were actually interested in. Just making Avatar: The Next Generation?
Regardless of orientation, you can't slap two characters into a relationship without some self-awareness. Either there has to be some buildup, or one or both characters should have a reputation for being impulsive, or there should be some natter from their friends about how foolish this is.
I should probably watch Korra at some point, but the prospect of dealing with two weak seasons before I can get to the good stuff keeps scaring me away from it.
i watched the last airbender movie because my parents wanted to and i mostly remember the pacing being fucked
and the indians they got to play the fire nation guys were the only decent actors, even if one of them i recognized as daily show correspondent aasif mandvi

Look, no season of Korra is any good.
Season one was "LET'S LEARN MARTIAL ARTS AND PLAY PROFESSIONAL SPORTS AND BUST CRIME AND DEAL WITH POWER IMBALANCE AND OPPRESSION AND INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION AND FIGHT CLASS WARFARE"
Seaon two was "LET'S BE GODDAMN HIPPIES WHO LOOKED AT THE WIKIPEDIA ENTRY OF DAOISM LIKE ONCE"
Season three was "LET'S BRING IN NARRATIVES OF REVOLUTION AND UNIFICATION AND SOCIAL CHANGE BUT NOT REALLY DO ANYTHING WITH THAT"
Season four was "LET'S APPROACH THE SAME THING FROM THE OTHER ANGLE AND DO STUFF WITH ORDER AND EXTREMISM AND GOING TOO FAR AND HAVE A GIANT ROBOT FOR SOME REASON"
Marginal improvements on shaky foundation still leaves you with a house of cards.
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
At some point I should get my Bubbles avatar back maybe; also I need to catch up on Gravity Falls
