At one point I saw someone say that calling a trans person "male/female bodied" is cissexist because if you identify as a gender, you have the body of that gender, end of story.
To my knowledge most transpeople I know wouldn't even agree with that.

Regarding that post on the last page... I get the feeling that this person has a bit of a blind spot regarding, say, "ketchup"/"catsup"/"catch up"/"cats up" puns, or the fact that food puns and puns in general are kind of a universal cultural meme in Japan...
Annoyance: Tumblr's relationship with fact checking.
I recently saw someone complaining about Roland Emmerich's upcoming movie about the Stonewall Riots. Their complaint was that Emmerich was minimizing the role of black transwomen in organizing the riots by making the entire cast white.
This isn't impossible, but they cited no evidence that this was going to happen in the movie, other than that the protagonist was going to be a white gay guy. I wouldn't put it past Emmerich, but I have no idea if he WILL do this, because Tumblr wanted to get angry first and prove their point second.
And I don't have to tell you how easy it is to spread lies on Tumblr.
You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
I can kiiiiinda see where you'd get that from, because there is a certain kind of transphobe who makes a point to mention someone's biological sex at every turn, but yeah, that's kinda taking it to the opposite extreme.
the nature of "sex" is pretty interesting to me as a biologistguy, since i know plenty of transpeople and i know lots of facts about reproduction and bodily development, and honestly they don't always match. they don't match with the bigoted extreme, either, though, so it's kind of fun
odradek: the internet in general being bad at fact checking, amplified with tumblr's inability to read more than three paragraphs, irritates me greatly. i try to give cites for even stupid shit like transltaed comics out of spite

Truscum refers to trans people who subscribe to the idea that transgenderism is a mental disorder solely defined by sex dysphoria. They are known for calling themselves "true transsexuals", which is why they are called and even call themselves truscum.
They often are against the idea of nonbinary and genderqueer people, referring to such people and some ftms as transtrenders.

Thanks
Basically I see people throwing the term about as a generic insult the way Tumblr types tend to do and I didn't trust anyone who uses the term that way to give me a straightforward answer
I want to know in what universe that person is living where what they said is even a REMOTELY acceptable response.
Like I don't deny that John Green's comment was poorly thought out, but, like, holy shit.
I fear for the future of your child, and what you will teach them. I fucking pray you never have a daughter because teaching her something like this is so fucking dangerous I can’t even wrap my mind around why you would ever think THIS KIND OF THINKING IS BENEFICIAL TO ANYONE BUT YOURSELF. I hope your wife raises your child properly cause you certainly fucking won’t.
This is not an okay thing to say because an author you don't like said something you don't like on Twitter.

Tumblr teenagers have this tendency to think in rigid absolutes: any opinion other than "agrees with me 100%" is completely unacceptable and contributing directly to oppression in our society!
It's the kind of thing where they've just sorta become aware of social problems for the first time and feel that giving any sort of leeway from what they think is the "right" answer will negate any good they've done. It's silly, but the good news is that most of them will grow out of it once they learn the world doesn't actually work strictly in terms of black and white.

It's also worth mentioning that the guy clarified his position while admitting that he screwed up, could very well be wrong and was willing to listen and learn—which is to say, showed some maturity in the matter.
But really, why are we even giving this melodramatic asininity the time of day? This person said something unsettlingly nasty in response to a faux pas by a popular author in the whiniest way possible, and giving it our attention can only bolster this idiocy and put us all in bad moods. So let's drop it. Or, if we must have a related conversation, discuss unintentional misogyny in popular media instead.
JSYK, the only reason I feel the need to discuss this on a regular basis is because a few good friends of mine are totally on the John Green Hate Train and that bugs the hell out of me, and it's not like I can vent on Tumblr.

Still, I can see why it'd be tiring. I'm done.
Now you understand the source of my feelings on the MCU

Get Tumblr Savior or whatever that's called now. Block the John Green tag, and all related tags.
That should help you to avoid this idiocy without having to unfollow people.

I know this is really fucking hypocritical of me, but what is with the aversion to unfollowing toxic people?
People can have one or two horrible habits and otherwise be perfectly OK, even wonderful. But if those bad qualities begin to become unbearable... yeah, unfollowing is a very good idea.
They aren't toxic people. They're good friends of mine. It's just a single thing they do that annoys me. I rarely see any reason to vent when I haven't been annoyed by them, and 99% of the time, I'm not.
I know this is really fucking hypocritical of me, but what is with the aversion to unfollowing toxic people?
I seem to have gotten into a habit of "I hate this person's opinions, but they...reblog...good...stuff." I'll probably unfollow those people if the bad outweighs the good, but for now it's given me a chance to use Tumblr Hate, which is perversely gratifying in its own way.
I saw that one demonicmuffin post earlier and got really annoyed at it, but then someone reblogged the full context where John Green was talking about Twilight with that comment, and then demonicmuffin seemed a bit more reasonable.
Yeah, but there's a difference between saying, "Why the hell are you defending Twilight, man-person?" and, "You should not be allowed to reproduce and raise your offspring!"
i should probably decide whether my blog is going to be science quotes and informally presented reviews of science things, or me complaining about the ten thousandth infographic conflating whole continents or whatever the fuck

Not worth raeging and crying over, though.
