Like, if you're going to say that words like dumb and stupid and crazy are slurs you might as well abolish all words that have the capability of being hurtful (which you may recognize as every word ever) and just communicate by sending off signals that have the sole purpose of causing everyone around you to release endorphins. I'm not saying being mean is okay, but insinuating that "dumb" is on the same level as a slur is pretty, ahem, dumb.

Tumblr hypocrisy can be kind of hilarious
If only because certain people are exceedingly self-righteous and yet totally oblivious to the fact that they don't practice what they preach
it's that they think that being oppressed allows you to be a dick
hence everyone trying to prove that they are the most oppressed. so that they can be as dickish as they want
"Well I shouldn't have to be nice so white straight men will agree with what I say!" is the most common thing I seen thrown around, but in my experience very few people who are outright unwilling to be educated about SJ stuff will say anything worse than "I get what you're saying, but could you tone it down a bit?"
I can understand why that would be frustrating but I feel like once you're at that point, if you continue to upset that person you're just being a dick, and no amount of "righteous indignation" can excuse that.

I'll admit, I often worry about the younger people (like, younger than any of us) who are growing up with Tumblr, because a lot of them seem to have developed this idea that sending death threats, telling people to kill themselves, wishing harm on people, etc. is a-ok as long as the target can be labeled an "oppressor" of some kind.
I imagine most of them will grow out of it, but it's still kinda upsetting to see...

I think that most people on Tumblr even in those circles recognise that such things are bullshit, but yes, it is concerning.
On a related note, I was looking into this "hipster racism" thing, and while there are plenty of good examples of people being twats in the name of faux-irony... people complaining about the New Yorker cover with the Obamas in "terrorist" garb fist-bumping seem to miss the point of the jibe. The joke is not on people of colour, but on the covertly racist assholes who conflate any remotely Other-ly gesture with a threat.

Ignorance is usually fixable, people who have actively decided that they hate Group X, much less so.
