Fair enough, though I'd say it's kinda a case of "straw that broke the camel's back"

I probably do by now, but I've seen that done enough times to know it's not worth it if I don't want to spend all evening arguing.

Whatever, time to visit other websites for a while.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
This is why I mostly follow art blogs with a handful of tolerable people with broader purviews: To avoid the youthful stupidity of people who want to stand for something but haven't worked out how to do that properly.

But let's face it: Better SJWs than reactionaries, bigots, pretentious right-libs and whiny fujoshi.
  • Isn't a fujoshi a bath house garment?

I am likely thinking of something else.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    You're thinking of fundoshi.

A fujoshi is a yaoi fangirl.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Yeah. A fundoshi is a robe, but a fujoshi... it literally means "rotten girl," like salaude in French, and it refers to hardcore female yaoi fans, who are generally (but not always) kind of gross in the same way that moe fanboys are generally (but not always) kind of gross. The latter are creepier on the whole, but there is still an analogy to be drawn with the fetishistic element...

Thanks for this, Tychon. Aside from positive feedback on my stories, this is probably the best thing I've seen all day.
  • The sadness will last forever.

There's a lot more of me skimming the posts I see in tumblr and I cut back on a few people that I follow.

I mean... there's certainly a number of Tumblrites who have sort of become a a parody of what they're trying to represent and doing a great job of helping the site maintain it's SJW bonkers reputation.

    Ignore what was here.
  • but JLaw falling doesn’t strike me as ‘quirky’ or ‘adorable’ at all

it strikes me as careless and insolent and here’s why

performing femininity is sooooo imperative for WOC in order to garner respect and even sometimes your very life

i got the Talk from my mum about how to walk like a lady since i was 6

    she herself performed femininity rigorously

because it’s one of the few ways Black and Brown women can grasp a smidgen, a tiny flicker, of (if not respect) at least tolerance

y’all think Lupita can afford to not care about how she comports herself? u think she can afford to make immature jokes about food and carry herself like a bull in a china shop? y’all think Gina Torres, Gabourey Sidibe, Salma Hayek, Lucy Liu could get away with that shit?

jlaw knows plenty well how to carry herself with etiquette and grace she just doesn’t care

'quirkiness' is all fun and games when you have the privilege to trip all over yourself and still be considered a desirable, accomplished woman.

meanwhile ima stay unimpressed until the day my Brown and Black girls can afford the same careless freedom that jlaw and her stans take for granted
Compellingly stated, makes a few good points, and ultimately hollow reactionary unnecessarily negative call-out-culture crap.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i don't know who Jlaw is, but it doesn't seem right to me to judge a woman for not being feminine on the basis that she has the privilege to act that way.

it strikes me as extremely antifeminist, in fact
  • JLaw is Jennifer Lawrence, the lead actor from The Hunger Games and some other stuff. Admired a bit too much for being "quirky" in my opinion but that doesn't make her a bad person.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    oh her

she's kind of funny i guess?  Imgur had a massive crush on her a few months back, but they seem to be mostly over her now
  • kill living beings
i have no idea who these people are. i assume they are fictional
  • My dreams exceed my real life
For all of Tumblr's arbitrary reasons to hate celebrities, this is the arbitrariest.
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
I always feel weird that Jennifer Lawrence is just a few days younger than Centie...
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
it kind of freaked me out when i heard she was younger than me

i was like, man, i have done nothing with my life, and she's famous
  • I liked the romcom about mental illness, and the Hunger Games is okay I guess
  • also she's younger than I am.  that's weird I guess.  I guess this is what happens when you get older, celebrities become younger than you are

Oh, this is just really annoying to me. Yes, women of colour should be allowed to just be who they want and be appreciated for that, but criticising white women for breaking those gender norms...? I just don't...

Why not say, "All women should be free to be as close to or far from this conception of performed femininity as personally suits them," instead of what is essentially, "This girl doesn't matter because she is not a minority"? Why don't people show some damn bravery instead of bitching about other people?

See, maybe I'm misinterpreting things, but a lot of times it seems like Tumblr views the concept of privilege backwards

Like, they're all "it sucks that [dominant group] can do [thing marginalized group can't]!" when they should be thinking of it as "it sucks that [marginalized group] can't do [thing dominant group can]!"
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
yeah, i think you hit the nail on the head there

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
And frankly, I think that there are a number of actresses of the non-white persuasion who could get away with looking careless and goofy. There is a racist culture that says that women of colour must be exceptional among the exceptional even to get noticed, but who says that someone who's already there allowing themselves to look silly now and then wouldn't be a huge step in the right direction? If anything, a hyper-competent, intelligent, poised woman from a racial minority showing that she is, in fact, a human being would be a huge boost of confidence for I don't know how many girls.

    ^^ Exactly!
  • they view any exhibition of privilege as direct action against minority groups

it's as though they think that JLaw tripping is a deliberate affront to black people somehow

Also, I'm not sure how to feel about the whole "March Eridan is transphobic" thing that comes up every year about this time

I mean, if the joke was "lol Eridan's a trans woman", I could see that as transphobic

But it's not; the joke is that he's a man in women's clothing

Which I guess still has some unfortunate implications, but...I dunno, part of me just wants to be contrary because it grates on me as a trans woman when cis people reblog posts telling me what I should find transphobic
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i thought it was just, you know, Eridan in drag

it's funny because it's out of character in a way that's comical

  • i wonder: what do SJWs think of drag queens

because on one hand they might say it's appropriative of trans people or something

but on the other it's like a sizeable gay subculture and shit so then they couldn't say anything about it without being homophobic twits

    so

  • oooohhh mannn now i'm remembering this one time where some SJW accused Cakes Da Killa of being misogynistic

    the results were

  • actually no centie i regret to inform you that if you like march eridan it's internalised transphobia tumblr says so

    so

I've mostly just heard complaints about ru paul or whoever using the word "t----y"
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
well, that at least is legitimately offensive

people are far too casual about dropping that slur like it's no big deal, even within queer culture

    maybe especially within it
  • yeah

a lot of LGBT peeps seem to think that being LGBT grants you unfettered use of the full suite of queerness-related slurs

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Considering that there are plenty of participants in the drag scene who are genderqueer or trans* in addition to gay men who simply enjoy dressing up that way, it would kind of be missing the point. The "tranny" thing is a little more complicated, but given that part of the offence comes (I think; please correct me if I'm wrong, trans-peeps!) from the fact that the expression was originally used as an abbreviation of "transvestite," the context of the word in drag culture is just a tiny bit different, even if it is still offensive...

I don't think that most angry Tumblrite teenagers are really informed enough or possess enough street cred to know the first thing about drag culture or trans* culture pre-'90s or even pre-2000, to be quite honest.
