I'm pretty sure what happened is some SA people noticed that such pages were against Google's rules and snitched.
For a while there were different non-Google ads on those pages; I forget if that still turned out to be violating a rule or if Eddie just said fuck it because those other ads didn't bring in as much money.
I'm pretty sure the reason he stopped was that they just didn't bring in as much money, but they were also the super-sketchy kind that put hidden overlays on the screen and auto redirected you on load.
