Thunt just wrote a thing about how people really didn't like how Kin's subplot has been developing, including one particularly vitriolic blogger who, despite multiple attempts to reach out to him/her, still blogs expressively about how much they hate his comic. The contention seems to be centered on Kin's involvement with Minmax after years of being prison raped by Dellyn. So Thunt reveals that he based Kin's subplot on his mother's own experiences with rape and her reactions to it. And I'm overwhelmed emotionally, and that's why I'm telling you all this

Ah, I think this is a very interesting glimpse as to what often happens in these situations. It's a shame what can happen to people, but at the same time some people DO turn what happened into some exclusive club where they assume most others have no experience with what they've dealt with. Sadly for them, they're often wrong and people learn to cope and move on with these experiences in very different ways.

Anyhow, I'm OK with Kin and Minmax's ark for the most part.

It's quiet clear that Kin has never or ever expected anyone to care about her this way.

She's also...you know...not human. She's in fact of a race of traditionally evil snake people.

The audience gets to decide if they like this or not, but the author here has A LOT of leeway and it's not like one reading the comic is a half-human/half-snake and really in an informed position to dictate her behavior no matter how similar their past may be with hers..

I love how Unwinder's Tall Comics never go in the direction you expect them to go. And any time it looks like one might get preachy, it gets self-referential instead.

I also loved that Unwinder is a brony.

Not the direction one would expect the comic to go, but at the same time, it makes a lot of sense that this would end up being something he's into and Barbecue Sauce would not be.

I love the fact that the pony toys in that comic aren't G4 toys. Indicating that either (A) Unwinder leaped headfirst into the brony scene without doing any research whatsoever, or (b) Unwinder is getting into the older pony generations in order to outdo all the bronies who just like Friendship Is Magic. Both of those strike me as completely in-character for him.

Oh wow, I never even thought about that. And you're right. BOTH are totally things he would do to establish himself as some sort of god-tier brony.
