I feel like "Meme" is slowly coming to mean "Image Macro"

  I always felt like that was a misuse of the term but I'm fighting a losing battle, just like how the # symbol itself is now called a "hashtag", whether the hash is followed by a tag or not

  honestly I can think of more memes off the top of my head that aren't image macros.  Probably more now than I could in the early days.

  Yeah but people actually use the word "meme" to mean image macros now, is the point.

  Tumblr memes are often text phrases. An older example is "that sounds fake but ok"

  i wasn't really distinguishing 'meh-meh' and 'may-may', they're similar enough to one another and both incorrect
