technically my legal first name is Nathan Michael but it is very rare that that matters to anyone.

variants of "Michael" run in the family, usually as the second part of a double-barrelled forename (my father is Keith Michael. His is John Michael).

Nathan is my mother's original invention, a compromise between one bit of the family that wanted to name me Keith, and another that wanted to name me Hugh. (I think Philipp might've been tossed around as well)
