Interestingly enough, Mackenzie and its variants are based on a misreading of the name mac Kenȝie, the odd letter in question being the Middle English yogh or insular g, which generally became "gh" in modern English. This, in turn, is a late version of the Gaelic mac Coinneach—"child of the handsome one."
variants of "Michael" run in the family, usually as the second part of a double-barrelled forename (my father is Keith Michael. His is John Michael).
Nathan is my mother's original invention, a compromise between one bit of the family that wanted to name me Keith, and another that wanted to name me Hugh. (I think Philipp might've been tossed around as well)
I am now remembering how Hideo Kojima put a character named Cecile Cosima Caminades in Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker seemingly entirely because the latter part of her name sounds like "Kojima Kami nan desu"
