Yeah, I guess it wouldn't make much of a difference at that point. But just starting out, it felt awesome.
I also drew a card that got me a diamond worth $12.50. I'm planning on upgrading my lodgings with it (which would leave me with about 4 echoes), is there something else super critical I should buy first?
e: Went ahead and got the key. It costs 3 actions to move? Bah.
They weren't even dream cards though. One was "buy a bundle of rags" and that bumped it to 6, and then I figured "well, I have this other card that says 'greater risks and rewards as your Nightmares rise'" and...
I mean, it could have been a lot better...or I could have avoided it entirely with a little common sense. But my Persuasive didn't actually go down a full point, so it could've been worse.
Ran into a glitch bad enough I had to call tech support--I clicked on the wrong thing and got booted out of the very end of the "making your name" quest where you have to write a short story, after I'd finished writing it but before the quality thing had actually increased. Which was frustrating, but they responded surprisingly fast and put me right back where I was, so that was cool.
Also, I like that Stolen Kisses are somehow a fungible item and that I sold enough of them to equal the worth of an especially shiny diamond. (Relatedly, in the process of raising my Connected Bohemian I was halfway to being simultaneously exiled and killed before I thought "hey, maybe I should cool it on pissing off Hell, the Church, and high society".)
Yess, I killed a spider council! And since I'd thought to rest a few times before going in, I didn't even die first.
Sure, all my menaces may be 5 or 6 right now, but that's more than the rhinospider can say.
Also, I'm a journalist and I'm playing the Numismatrix's game in favor of the Bohemians. Because the path to becoming a Correspondent requires a lot of palling around with hippies first, I guess! Speaking of which, I'll be able to actually officially become a Scholar of the Correspondence as soon as I scrounge up enough supplies to have a good margin for the Tomb of the Seven.
I haven't actually even done any actual tomb robbing yet--I just kept digging up thieves' caches until my Archaeology reached 3.
Also, my progress on my ambition has stalled until I can get into the Shuttered Palace, but I'm assuming if I just keep Making My Name in Veilgarden it'll open up the route since that seems to be the pattern here.
Partway through talking to the Topsy King in the Flit? After a few checks for that, it said I needed to go to the Shuttered Palace to learn about his past.
I've collected enough spider silk and gossip for the next step of Veilgarden, so now I just need to mingle with high society until I can get an invitation to the ball. But I'll probably have to get better clothing than the literal rags I'm wearing right now (sure, they give +2 Watchful, but that's probably not going to fly when I show up at a black tie party).
The only name of note among mine (besides a lizard named after our favorite suchian) is a Watchful Doll named Hetty. I believe you'll get the refrance.
How deep is the RPing in FL and whatnot? Like, can I became a necromancer, or run aviaries, or rise to the top of a business only to lose all of my money from blackjack and hookers? Is there cake?
Everybody comes back from the dead by themselves, so no necromancy. You can buy all the birds (tm) but no distinct aviary for them. Losing all your money to blackjack and hookers (well, technically there's that one storylet, but nevermind that) is only for premium players. There is no cake, and if there were, it would be made of mushrooms.
The main appeal of Fallen London & Sunless Sea is definitely the writing and roleplaying (and seeing numbers go up and meters get filled, of course, who doesn't like that).
I'm pretty sure I'm going to lose my soul in the world's greatest game of blackjack, but I just sold exactly 500 souls to Hell to gain their favor (and a large quantity of booze) so I probably deserve it.
Well, there aren't really a lot of magic elements? I mean, devils walk the street, but it's more of a mundane magic sort of thing.
Also, not a lot of focus on birds. While there are certainly birds to be obtained and even upgraded, it's fallen london for a reason. Not a lot of birds underground.
You could always try it. 85% of the game's free, after all.
Come to think of it, you would probably like Sunless Sea too, since it gets compared to FTL a lot. (I haven't played FTL so I don't know how accurate the comparison is, but it is a roguelike on a ship.)
Alright so my name is AJ Rose, and I'm making my goals for this character to be, on a whim, a courtesan who rules behind the scenes and whatever else sounds tantalizing and possibly dangerous along the way. No hints, please.
Which is to say attempt #2 at the Tomb of the Seven went way better, partly due to luck but mostly because I realized my original strategy of "just rush it" wasn't very effective. Anyway, I have 38 supplies left over so I can always go do some more tomb raiding to recoup my costs. And as soon as I finish this investigation, I will officially be a Scholar of the Correspondence.
Officially an Author now! I assume since it took me a week to get to Journalist, and then a week to get to Author, I can expect to be a Correspondent next week. I'm sure getting up to Scholar of the Correspondence 10 can't be that hard, right? :p
