π - Wikipedia stunned observers Monday by announcing that it would acquire the Wikimedia Foundation, the nonprofit organization which supports it, for £3.πT in cash.
“The source of the funding has not been disclosed,” said Paste Waleshipman, the world’s #1 Wikipedia editor, user, and bus driver. “Wikipedia has long declared its constant, unending need for our financial support, so to see Wikipedia more or less eat itself is baffling and slightly concerning.”
Wikipedia’s acquisition of its longtime benefactor rasied speculation that Public Broadcasting Service and National Public Radio ocould launch a joint bid to take control of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, whose support of PBS and NPR has come under threat from Congress.
Wikipedia has not said when it expects to close on the deal, or whether or not it has already taken control of Wikimedia Foundation.
