this is no good. i understand the intended point. that's not how political comics are supposed to work.

  • You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022

Well, that's why it's a bootleg.  I make no guarantees that it'll work like the real thing.

I can't actually remember what I did now, but I think it was something like reducing the color palette to the point where everything looked dither-y

I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
If you make another, it should say "ObamaCare"

The real humor of Political cartoons is that people still care about politics.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
because politics often have life and death consequences

    real hilarious

oh my mistake, you're not a human being so outside environmentalist debates you're laughing

really i don't mean to sour the mood here and i'm aware that a great deal of what goes on in politics is just mindless insult slinging and filibustering by privileged people who care only about their own careers

but the results of their actions have real world consequences for everybody so i do hope you'll pardon me for caring quite a bit edit: no i don't really hope anything of the kind, the truth is i actually do care and i guess it just irritates me to be made fun of like that and all of a sudden i'm not sure why i'm making a big deal out of this, and in this thread of all places?

    i'm sorry, it's been a long day

Also, I don't see you guys caring to much about the Chameleon power struggles or the Frilled Lizard elections.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
yeah but i'm not laughing at chameleons for caring about them

    it's serious stuff if you're a chameleon

i don't even know if chameleons have power struggles, and i'm pretty sure frilled lizards don't have elections

i don't know that much about lizards, they are not common around here

    You have a good point.

Those that are affected have a good reason to care.

Just because I might not find something to be important doesn't mean that you shouldn't care.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
Thank you.  i'm sorry for being a grouch.

The termite article was interesting.  Nice contrast to the familiar 'nature red in tooth and claw' model at the end there.
  • "It is a matter of grave importance that Fairy tales should be respected.... Whosoever alters them to suit his own opinions, whatever they are, is guilty, to our thinking, of an act of presumption, and appropriates to himself what does not belong to him." -- Charles Dickens

Why care about politics if you're powerless? I mean all you have is one vote out of tens of millions, and any law that elected representatives pass can be overturned by the Supreme Court.

If you really care, you could become a politician yourself, or a law professor and try to popularize the position that some laws you do't like are unconstitutional, but for ordinary citizens, quietism is rational.

i think it's rational to pay some attention in case new developments will affect you

or from a moral standpoint, if they will affect people or things that you care about, especially if it's something negative and you can do something about its effects

and i don't honestly think we're powerless.  in the big picture, yeah, but that doesn't mean we can't influence things by e.g. writing to MPs and signing petitions

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
^^ On the other hand, the collective vote is made up of tens of millions of individual votes, and if enough people think like that, then they ensure that a smaller, less representative pool within the greater public has electoral power—a pool that most likely represents a very specialised set of interests with no intention of compromise. Which is how you get the mess that we have today, I think.

tbh i've thought, only semi-seriously, about getting properly, actively involved in politics, as in, as a career choice, but i really don't think i'd be even slightly suited to it

you need a certain amount of charisma, a large amount of nerve, and a spotless internet footprint
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I have also considered it, although I doubt that my Internet footprint could be considered "spotless."
  • kill living beings
at first i was unpleasantly surprised that that article wasn't about the democratic character of colony decisions and secondly i was pleasantly surprised that despite that the underlying trope of ruling queens (they actually don't of course) it was a neat article
  • ...And even when your hope is gone
move along, move along, just to make it through
    (2015 self)
I keep forgetting which one is the liberals and which one is the conservatives.
  • The liberals are the ones telling everyone to work together to find food and expand the colony while the conservatives are the ones telling everyone to be ever wary of their fellow termites and prepared to fight for succession just in case the mating pair should suddenly die off.
  • ^ There.  That one's so bootleg there's not even an image.
