Why didn't anybody try to outbid Disney for Lucasfilm?

There's a book excerpt that makes it clear that there was a chance for somebody else to show up with a competing offer for the company.

Given that Disney had just seen The Avengers become a cultural phenomenon and had loads of follow-ups in the works, why the fuck did the rest of Hollywood just sit there and let them have the literal Death Star? You can, at least, take News Corporation (getting ready to split in two), Comcast (needed to buy NBCUniversal outright), and Sony (doesn't splurge) out of consideration...though News Corp. may have made an exception, for obvious reasons.

  • You seem to care a lot about corporate buying and I can never figure out why.
  • You are the end result of a “would you push the button” prompt where the prompt was “you have unlimited godlike powers but you appear to all and sundry to be an impetuous child” – Zero, 2022
It would have required a heck of a lot of money...

Okay but I'm supposed to believe outbidding Disney's $4.05 billion is too rich for Corporate America?

Because I personally find corporate talks/money talks boring so I'm not exactly in a position to see why the fascination. I always separate corporate culture from creative culture.

Not meaning to be an insult though.

Sales and deals are so fascinating

They're big and flashy and involve important things a lot of the time

I'm not seeing it personally. But different strokes.

Also, it's thoroughly incomprehensible to me that the studios are obsessed with franchises and tentpoles, and yet, after seeing how richly Disney was rewarded for gambling on Marvel, and the prospect of adding Star Wars to their IP portfolio comes up? Nobody makes a play for the franchise?

The other media conglomerates' pockets aren't?

    you're telling me
  • Btw, HH will be bought by Disney in 5 months. Why? Because Mickey was bored

    Is Lee selling to them?

Also, fwiw, Mickey's just an employee

Deep down inside he hates getting all the heat for his bosses' actions
  • He's the face so he gets the complaints whether he deserves it or not.

HH is selling for $12 and a ham sandwich. A delicious sandwich mind you.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
If HH is sold to Disney I will quit immediately
  • Future rules entail:
    1. No backtalking about Disney's projects or rules.
    2. No talking about Disney's competitors.
    3. Mandatory 3-hour watching of Disney content.
    4. No Pay raises ever.

  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
not if we use the Infinity +1 Sword
  • Sorry it requires the Infinity +500 sword. And that's hidden deep in the center of the earth
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
