crunchyroll tried to advertise me the mmo anime, which i'm already watching, as "a refreshing take on online gaming culture" which is almost terrible sounding enough to make me stop watching

Isn't there rather frequently (with an undercurrent of being distressingly so) a phenomenon where the voice talent is predominantly female or at least where there's a lot of female representation while the rest of the production staff is pretty much all male?

or at least i noticed this in videogames; the production staff is often all-male except for some of the testers
  • Well, the anime and manga industries are still pretty male-dominated, so.

    Haruhi Suzumiya review I wrote

full warning: this is my "Speed Racer is an all-time classic movie" moment
  • Thanks for sharing; that was a pretty nice read and I really appreciated how it discussed how Haruhi's story might relate to our own lives.

FWIW you imply that there's still a strong presence of Haruhi fans and their influence in the fandom these days, but I gotta say, I rarely see it mentioned these days, considering how huge of a phenomenon it was several years ago.  (Maybe I'm not hanging out in the right places?)

    > (the anime adaptation and most subsequent quotings leave out a bit about “sliders”)

Turns out Haruhi was looking for the perfect burger all along.
  • "Ha! Yeah, I've been called a lot of things. . .I've never met someone like you before though, and you intrigue me. So very. Very much. . .Wanna try dying?"
I mean most people who liked it don't really talk about it much nowadays simply because it's not on anymore and the last novel came out in 2011, so there's been a pretty big dearth of new content.

When the Vanishing anime came out, the Haruhi fandom kinda came out of the woodwork (for better and worse), but since then it's been nada.

I've seen the BRS oneshot but that review suggests I should bump up the series. Thanks for the review and reminder.

watched the first half of Hōseki no Kuni so far and it's reeeeeeeeeally good yo

I sensed that this anime's gonna strike a special nerve with me the moment I read its plot, and my hunch was right >_>
  • Apparently, Hoozuki no Reitetsu got a second season made. How am I just hearing about this now?
  • My dreams exceed my real life
  • extremely not so but maybe just a tad yes
So, I watched something very interesting last night.

This was apparently intended to be the pilot episode for a Unico series, but clearly didn't perform well enough. Anyways, it's got its moments of cuteness and charm, while still being reasonably morbid and a good example of the pervasive darkness that permeates Osamu Tezuka's creations of the 1970s

    y'know what

the story in Naruto really wasn't bad, it was just dragged down by other issues

i feel like if you had something with the humour of RWBY and the plotting and thematic complexity of Naruto you'd have a pretty decent series, certainly better than either of the two

one piece theory i just came up with that i'm kind of excited about but won't mean anything at all to anyone who hasn't been closely following the series, and also might have already been confirmed or refuted since i'm following the anime and not up to date with the manga at present (major zou and dressrosa spoilers)

    Spoiler:
'don' sounds similar to dawn.  what if they are the same thing?  furthermore, what if 'd' stands for dawn?  the dawn of the age of the new pirate king?  the end of the darkness imposed by the world govt and the red line?

furthermore, i can't believe it took me this long to notice this but, to travel along the grand line the normal way, starting at reverse mountain, necessarily, one must sail east, the direction in which the sun rises.  which, given that wano is obviously based on the 'land of the rising sun', and that the kozuki clan have a sun-like emblem and invented the poneglyphs, seems unlikely to be coincidental

the pacing in One Piece is crawling at the moment, but the latest episode was good in spite of that

"reverse mountain" sounds like a funny name, but then again i recently visited Turnagain Arm

The world in One Piece is divided into 4 oceans, called Blues.  Reverse Mountain is accessible from all the 4 Blues, and is the only entry point for the Grand Line by sea (without the use of certain specialized ships used by the navy).

    image

Reverse Mountain is also noted for its fast currents.  If you access Reverse Mountain from the northeast via East Blue, as the Straw Hats did, the only exit is to the east, onto the Grand Line.  Hence, Reverse Mountain.

Within the narrative of One Piece, it represents a change of direction for the main characters: up to that point, the Straw Hats had been moving west (well, his name is Monkey), with the Grand Line as the ultimate goal.  After Reverse Mountain, their voyage is eastwards down the Line.

i finally gave up on Tokyo Ghoul

what i saw of the current season was better than the previous one, but it's just nothing like the show i started watching, and i'm convinced that the people animating it missed what was good about it
  • I'm done with Cowboy Bebop; just stopped liking it for no reason. I have a few favorite animes. I like Sonic X and Sonic the Movie, but that's about it.
  • @Tachyon are those, like, contour lines?  if so, are those rivers up to the top of the mountain, or is the mountain just strangely cleaved into five parts?  and if so, what happened to the west side of the mountain?
