consider the words 'gettest', 'protectest', 'wantest', 'askest', and 'existest'

what is easier for you to pronounce

/ɡɛtɪst/ or /ɡɛtst/
/prəˈtɛktɪst/ or /prəˈtɛktst/
/wɒntɪst/ or /wɒntst/
/ɑːskɪst/ or /ɑːskst/
/ɪɡˈzɪstɪst/ or /ɪɡˈzɪstst/

  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I feel like some of those would wind up being irregular verbs. I'd look up the history in the OED but the usual password hasn't been working for me.
  • that is possible as well, although considering there's almost no exception with the third person singular present outside of auxiliary verbs, I'd like to see if I could get away with that too

of course '-est' is not exactly equivalent to '-(e)s' or '-ed' in a couple of ways, but I'd also like to see how to make it fit among them
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
I think the first pronunciation is easier in almost every case
