Am I getting old?

Like

2008 feels way more recent to me now than 1998 did then

And people say things like "it's hard to believe now, but Iron Man wasn't a very well-known/popular character before 2008" (also Thor and Captain America before 2011, the Guardians of the Galaxy before 2014), or reviews of Civil War treating the then-eight-year-old MCU as though it was a decades-old tradition

Are people's memories that short?

  • There are people who weren't born when Iron Man came out who are old enough to be watching Marvel movies now.

So, the short answer is: yes.
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
It's a well-known phenomenon that perception of time speeds up as one gets older.

    2008 was yesterday.

1998 was, I dunno, a couple months ago

1988 was ages ago, dimly recalled
  • dude a decade is a long period of time
