The Russo Brothers are making a movie remake of Love and Monsters

Because it will make the Doctor part of the MCU, you will lap it up as a great idea like the fucking street dog you are.

No, you do. Every character must snark at every other character.

The directors of the worst Marvel movie are making a sequel to that movie based on a widely-hated comic arc, and featuring the symbol of Disney/Marvel dominance over IPs, and starring a clusterfuck of characters.

Marvel fanboys have the goddamn gall to be excited over this.
  • We can do anything if we do it together.
I think that if the Winter Soldier happened twenty years ago, it would've been mocked as an ultimate example of the artistic bankruptcy of superhero comics.

I don't get why people are suddenly taking it seriously, not just in comics but in the culture at large.
  • The main reason Disney is dominant over IPs is because Time Warner doesn't know their ass from a hole in the ground

The Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe would be >>>>>> the MCU
  • Also, I'm not a street dog! Us Dearly-Radcliffs lead a comfortable lifestyle fueled by Roger's big fat song royalty checks
  • But yeah

Where are you seeing these Marvel fanboys? I have heard no excitement over Captain America 3

I must not follow the same Tumblrs that you do, though I did get annoyed at a post where a bunch of teenagers tripped over themselves to praise St. Walter Elias Disney

Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
I still think CA2 was really good. I honestly don't know what makes you folks hate it so much. All I know is that you do. The action was bad is the only argument I remember? And I totally feel otherwise.

I thought Love and Monsters was okay. I don't see what's so bad about it, other than the image of a slab of concrete sucking some guy's dick.

I'll also remind you that twenty years ago was the 90's, and we had dumb stuff like Cable and Spawn and The Dark Knight Returns and Liefeld and Kingdom Come running around. Comic books were always stupid. And they always will be.

I didn't like the Winter Soldier arc in the comic books. It left me unphased. Like, characters are supposed to stay dead or whatever? Like it's some sort of sacred cow? And I don't care. Bring back Uncle Ben or whatever, he's the only one left now. Nothing is sacred, and I will gladly overturn all altars, feast on the sacrificial meat with my fangs, and dance in the ashes as it is mixed in with the indignant tears of whomever dares to care about such things.

No one has any personality of any kind.

It's a bad action movie, then it's a bad conspiracy movie, then it's a different kind of bad action movie.

    It's too long.

The central political metaphor is insipid and insulting.

It wastes good actors with an infantile script.
  • Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
    I disagree on all counts.

i felt Russell T Davies should have treated that kid's monster concept with a little more respect.  He clearly wasn't taking the episode seriously.

Aside from that and the aforementioned paving slab bit, it was ok i think, kind of funny even.
  • Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
Other stupid 90's comic book things:
    • Death and Return of Superman.
    • Azrael Batman.
    • Guy Gardner, Warrior.
    • (the former doctor) Fate.
    • Clone Saga.
    • Captain America's breasts.
    • Superman Red and Superman Blue.
    • Collectibles.
  • My dreams exceed my real life
Also I was talking about Civil War, not Winter Soldier
  • My dreams exceed my real life
Every time someone defends Winter Soldier, they refer to some mystical unspecified way in which it was "well made" despite all the elements being bad.

You said "the worst Marvel movie by the worst directors" so clearly, you have to be talking about Winter Soldier.

Like, I honestly can't tell if something is well made or not, because I don't know how to watch movies. I don't know how to do anything, unlike everyone here.

All I know is that it was a good time at the movies.

given how loaded with angst and death the show was otherwise I can't blame him for loosening up a bit

The way you said it made it sound like I was insulting Winter Soldier when I said "a sequel to that movie based on a widely-hated comic arc"

eh, it wasn't really?  New Earth had jokes, Tooth and Claw had jokes, The Idiot's Lantern had jokes

it was a bit of a grim season, it's true, but if he wanted to write something silly to serve as a breather ep i feel like he should have used his own monster
  • Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
    If you want to talk about stupid 80's comic book things, then there's;
    • Call to kill Jason Todd.
    • Crisis on Infinite Earths.
    • Crystar the Crystal Warrior.
    • The New Universe.
    • Superman and Big Barda make a porno.
    • Watchmen.
    • Etc.

for that matter you can write a funny Doctor Who and still take the monster seriously

take Flatline: hilarious episode, and the monsters are terrifying

or, heck, look at The Unicorn and the Wasp, definition of a silly episode, but the humour doesn't come from the monster, it comes from the other characters
  • Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
I've listed things I actually like in both lists (Warrior, Kill Jason Todd, Crisis, Electric Superman, Kingdom Come), but I don't deny that they're all fucking stupid.

Asking comic books to not be fucking stupid is like asking water to flow upwards; it's almost impossible and you're going to get wet either way. In comics, everybody is bankrupt both financially and creatively all the time, and that's what makes it the pinnacle of proletarian entertainment.
  • We can do anything if we do it together.
Sorry for the delay, but I was typing this on my phone and I kept getting ninja'd.

    That was my point, yes.

If the Winter Soldier had happened twenty years ago, it would've just been seen as one more bad idea among the pile that you listed. Marvel would've come up with some explanation about how he wasn't "really" Bucky, and we all would've moved on.

Because Ed Brubaker was able to place a "respectable" guise on it, however, the idea has endured and been canonized to the point where it's been adapted into a movie.

I'm not referring to bringing him back being the "dumb idea", BTW. Anyone who still cares about the non-permeable nature of death in Big Two comics is quite naive, to say the least. The ship for worrying about that has sailed a long time ago.

I'm referring to bringing Bucky back as a grimdark cyborg assassin. I have a very hard time taking that idea seriously, yet you're apparently supposed to.

I don't mind dumb ideas at all. I do mind being forced to take them seriously.

I also have to appreciate the sheer ballsiness of putting Watchmen in your "dumb ideas" list, BTW.
  • Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
Civil War is fucking stupid and they're making that into a movie.
  • We can do anything if we do it together.
I think we can both agree that Mark Millar is the literal worst.
  • For once, or maybe twice, I was in my prime.
We can only hope that we'll get to see Bleedball banging his head against the wall, screaming, "Don't you get it? I'm deep now! This is DEEP!" on the big screen.

That would risk alienating Marvel's audience of eight year olds and eight year olds at heart.

That's more for DC's audience of twelve year olds and twelve year olds at heart.

To be fair, I did recently find out that he wrote some all-ages Superman comics that were actually pretty good.

I'm still surprised that he was able to write those comics, TBH.

Ant-Man relegates all characters who aren't white Americans to the status of comedy criminal sidekicks

except for Falcon who's mostly there to get beaten up

an ethnic slur is deployed for comedy and it's supposed to be funny because it's spoken by an Eastern European criminal and suggests he is naive and ignorant
  • Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
Hey, man. It's me we're talking about. The anti-fan of everything, in that I hate fans, and I would rather cut off pieces of myself than join those assholes in whatever dickstroking they're doing at any moment. I hate those folks almost as much as you.

I am the perfect man, deathless and eternal. I have no faults.

Look me in the eye. Tell me. Do you think I know what I'm talking about?

Yes, the movie's central thesis that mass surveillance happened because of nazi infiltration of the government by people who Hate Our Freedom, was completely correct.

I also liked the bit in Avengers 2 where two victims of American imperialism have to learn the value of interventionism from the billionaire who literally designed the bomb that killed their family.
  • Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
The second one, I'll give you. It was some bullshit.

The first one, I disagree, because it's not Nazi infiltration of the government. It's Nazis latched on to a growing and aggressive world power drunk on its pride and strength, letting it do what it wanted.

They wouldn't have gone American if America wasn't already going to be what it is now.
  • My dreams exceed my real life
No one hates freedom except people on the internet who have been redpilled by moldbug. And they don't rule the world.
  • Man is a most complex simple creature: see what he weaves, and how base his reasons for doing so.
American Imperialism is not "I hate freedom." American Imperialism is "I'm afraid for my freedoms and powers and wealth so I'm going to go bully other people to make me feel better."

It's so easy to go from that to "Everyone should be safe and afraid."
