  • I don't know if she was fused during the war, but based on that old timey shark punching picture they've been together at least a couple hundred years.

I really want to see The Tale of Ruby And Sapphire, but whenever it happens it appears to be during a time period that we don't know anything about yet--either pre-rebellion, or post-rebellion but pre-Greg. (Or perhaps during the rebellion--a near-death incident that made them realize they never wanted to be apart?) So I don't know how it would come up, except maybe they tell him all about it as part of that birthday plan he's gonna pretend not to know about.

Anything before Greg will require loads and loads of new designs. It might even mean before Beach City itself.

I think there was a point in time when Pearl went to a lot of tea-parties; tea culture has been very prevalent all over the world (particularly the Asian cultural sphere, where some formal tea consumption is more about the visual aesthetics than the actual taste), and so learned how to make tea in a variety of ways. But she never actually drank any, because what's more important is to just to have lively discussion over tea, without drinking it.

Also, I'll bet you folks actual money that Peridot's weapon is the Mega-Buster.

Headcanon: Somewhere on Homeworld, away from the hustle and bustle of the cities, tucked away in the alleys of great temples and spires, you can find a cottage. It's not a very big house, more of a hut, but it's there, made of black stone. If you ask anyone about it, they make a sign with their fingers, and refuse to speak about it.

The only gems who would speak to you are either fools (say, Garnet) or rebels (perhaps Rose Quartz). They'll tell you that a powerful, mysterious witch lives there. The most powerful gem that ever lived, a practitioner of magics lost, forgotten, and fallen by the wayside. They'll tell you she knows a thousand stories and forgotten things, like the first name of Homeworld, and the people that once used to live there. They'll tell you that to enter that hut unbidden is to know things long forgotten, things you'd really rather not know.

She's not Baba Yaga, Circe, Hekate, or Spearfinger. But she is of that mold. She would have found them worthy company.

Call her 'Obsidian'. It's as good a name as any. But what gems should be calling her is 'Mother.'

Once upon a time, there were two women who loved each other. They were organic, as people tend to be. They saw others of their kind live and die. They saw their miserable, pain-filled world, full of systemic suffering. And they thought; "I wish we could be together always. I wish we could create a better kind of person." And so, through magic and mystic arts, they transformed their essence into light, shone through the facets of resonating crystals, infused with little packets of life stolen from their surroundings. Eternal life was theirs.

What fools they were. How brash they acted.

One became a brilliant, life-reflecting star, illuminating the universe, pushing at the light. The other became the long, cool shadows, that took definition and shape from light. For a time, they were happy.

But they knew not what they asked of each other. They didn't know what they had done to each other, what they would do, what they would become.

The years stretched on, and life became static. One thought children could fill that void; doesn't matter which one. And what children they did have; some a multitude of a single type, many totally unique, with singular natures and talents. Each capable of surviving hostile environments, each gifted with a weapon to protect themselves with. Their family became a village, which became a city, which became a nation, which became a world. And their family thought; "We love each other. We care for each other. We are prosperous and blessed and we should share our blessings with those who have not." And so began the Gem Empire.

But this is not the story of their children.

The two women continued to live, and try to love, but they couldn't find each other. They turned away from each other, gradually at first, and then rapidly. One turned to raising their children, the other turned to practicing new sorceries and magics. Children did not fill the void that they needed from each other. Future vision could not give them the knowledge on how to fix things. Raising children became governance, practice of magic became industry.

It wasn't one thing that broke their bond. It was countless small inconsiderations and miscommunications and foolish acts, a slow death, an orbit that slowly decayed. Eventually, the light flew away to establish new strongholds, in the furthest reaches of the universe, while the shadow stayed and let time pass her by as she crafted new magic.

She stayed and gave tutelage to the margins and the outcasts of gemkind, those who needed guidance and edges to survive in the harsh world she helped create. She watched her children go from colonizers to rulers, from queens to tyrants. She felt herself grow irrelevant to their world, as the strongest and the brightest raised themselves up as the Diamonds, and she cared not one bit. She cheered as groups of her brave and bold against their brethren for the sake of the weak and the frightened. She cried for every one that perished in the civil wars that sparked, first on earth, then elsewhere, as the Gem Empire lost its grip on the cosmos.

But one day, she heard something, coming from that planet named Earth. Something that shouldn't be possible, something unthinkable. An organic-gem hybrid? Now, that is interesting.

And so it was that Obsidian found out that she had become a grandmother.

there's this site that provides links to devices that let you download chunks of data from other people trying to download the same thing all around the world and it produces complete files.  something about a bay, with pirates?  i dunno

We already linked him sites. :P
  • Piratebay is a honeypot so going there is probably a bad idea.

I use Kisscartoons because you can click away the ads before the video starts and you don't have to download anything.

I thought that was confirmed to be not the case

If it were I've not heard about it.

I only go on TorrentFreak like once every two months and I haven't randomly wanted to play a Fallout game lately so idk.

the article i found mentioning it wasn't the case mostly pointed out that it would be utterly pointless since to catch users actually downloading they'd have to do what they already do which is to just examine the ip addresses of the people torrenting things you care about (which means recently released movies)
  • idk man I got hit with a notice for torrenting a David Axelrod album once.

You never know what'll get you in trouble.

I empathize with Pearl's position a lot. I've lied about things, manufactured stories or experiences so I could feel closer to others. I've straight-up fabricated a religious experience for the benefit of my father.

It's a horrible thing, that Pearl's done, lying to the people who love her. But it's fine, because I'm horrible too.

Maybe they're saving the variant on the ArchAndroid she would play for later in the season.

Admittedly, it would be pretty cool to see.
  • Spoiler:
    RUBY AND SAPPHIRE!!!!
There's a lot more to be said about this episode but I'm just gonna go with that.

I doubt they need Monae now.

I don't have any insightful analysis today. What you see is what you get.

Also, I feel dumb for denying that Sapphire only has one eye now.

That shit is fucking ridiculous. Like, we already have a literal name for the relationship between Ruby and Sapphire, and that's Garnet.

But then, I get annoyed at people tagging Stephen + Connie as Stevonnie, so I guess this sort of granularity is needed for the many different pairing shenanigans that fans participate in.

Beach City itself is apparently in a state called Delmarva
  • Delaware and Maryland are so similar they might as well merge.

I'd say it's not allowed for one of the Thirteen Original Colonies to split or merge, but Virginia split.

I can understand wanting to draw a distinction between art of Garnet as a single character and art of Ruby and Sapphire, but this is a very silly way of going about it.

It'll make sense whenever I get to watching the episode in a totally legitimate manner.
