    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Note to Tachyon: The case is not the chamber. It is literally a case. Like a kit-box or something. You have not looked inside of it yet.

    Oh, wait, I misunderstood that...
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
i figured the case was bulky enough that you could use for shelter in the rain

that said, can i change my last input?  i had a better idea
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
    Yes, you may.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
You should probably take into account Naney's direction, though, as his came before yours...

Which is why I asked people to leave instructions one at a time.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    yes, sorry about that

i had figured leaving the case was something that could be done quickly

so i guess just dump it for now

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
    It could be.

    Hmm.

    You shall see...

it's Captain Indecisive!  Or is it?

sorry for making a mess in your thread
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
It's fine. It's my own fault for not figuring this part out more precisely. I honestly assumed that someone would want to look in the case or look for matches earlier.
  • is our player character "us" or is it like Ellie where there is a person that we are merely playing through a first person interface.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
The POV is a character in their own right, although the way their personality forms is influenced by the directions. For example, dialogue later on will be up to individual contributors to a certain degree.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Sorry if that response seemed unduly snarky, Al, but I honestly could not go with that by any means.

OK, I could, but I don't want the main character getting killed this early...
  • ...And even when your hope is gone
move along, move along, just to make it through

    'tis fine, 'tis fine.

We learned a bit about the MC (good with ladders and trees, not afraid of heights, not experienced with cliff faces), and that's all to the good.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
    Ah, cool.

Speaking of danger and mystery, does anyone want to investigate this weird little room that probably shouldn't be there?

My dreams exceed my real life
I just realized that this is weirdly reminding me of the ending section of Pajama Sam: No Need To Hide When It's Dark Outside.
  • ...And even when your hope is gone
move along, move along, just to make it through

Does mc have any writing implements or does he/she have to bite a finger and use blood?

Or am I barking up the wrong tree?
  • there is a knife
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
^^ You're barking up the wrong tree. "Selcouth" is an archaic word literally meaning "that which is seldom known to be." It means alien and peculiar.
  • ...And even when your hope is gone
move along, move along, just to make it through
    (2015 self)
I assumed it was related to uncouth.

I dunno, if there's one thing Planescape: Torment taught me, it's to write down the words and memories that pop into your head. Collect as many vague memories/ vague ideas as possible, like pieces to a puzzle.

Then again, that's the kind of game where you tattoo messages to yourself and such weirdness.

    “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
"Uncouth" literally means "not known or understood." The "couth" part is a now obsolete or archaic past participle for the verb "can," which originally was much closer in meaning to "know" or "parse." This survives in Scots with formations like, "Do ye ken?"

That said, the fact that this word occurs to you may or may not be important given its nature.

    lol whoops
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Hey, peeps! Altar, weird thing, cabinet, stuff, yeah!
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Yarrun, you do remember that there is a spiral staircase right behind you, don't you? And that there seems to be something coming up that staircase? While opening the box may not be the worst idea in the world, it is a strange time to choose to do so.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
The staircase is mentioned in the previous post, though...

Ach, well, whatever. Let the stuff commence.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Also remember the following: You still have a knife in one hand; the cabinet also has drawers; and you can take the cloth off of the thing on the altar at any time.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
    We are back in business.
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    yusssss
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
    Arise.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Yes, I missed Odradek's command. I slipped up. This will not happen again, hopefully. I really want to get this back going. It's a fun exercise.

Although I never thought we'd get stuck in this dinky shrine for so long.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
I'm bringing the sexy back, people.

But first I need to figure out how to resolve this bizarre staircase situation in a way that doesn't involve the player character getting themselves killed (or shanking some poor sap).
  • imagei will watch the heck outta this pumpkin patch
    Yay!

(If we're about to die, do we not get any continues?)
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
You continue. I just don't want to get into those shenanigans just yet.
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Don't ask why. Just roll with it.
