It's weird to me that Cats was ever the biggest musical in the world

It's just like

so niche

it's a largely plotless group of character piece showtunes about individual cats

    sounds pretty boss tbh

I like it, but it is, again, super niche

Which is probably why people on the internet only bring it up to dunk on it now
  • “I'm surprised. Those clothes… but, aren't you…?”
Because of Andrew Lloyd Webber's star-power and knack for catchy songs, probably, and the sheer novelty of the premise and execution.

In all seriousness, I wouldn't mind an opera based on Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats by someone who, y'knw, wasn't Andrew Lloyd Webber. He's just seriously not my cup of tea, and the failure to get Edward Gorey involved given his theatre work and his fantastic illustrations for later editions of the book is a freaking tragedy.
  • It's Seinfeld but with cats.  It was a slam dunk even before Andrew Lloyd Webber signed on.
  • My dreams exceed my real life
But Jason Alexander is a duck, and Jerry Seinfeld is a bee?
  • Bee Movie, but everyone is cats

Seriously though I never understood why people liked Seinfeld either.  Are New Yorkers that desperate for validation or something?
  • I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
    seems like it
  • Touch the cow. Do it now.
    it's about nothing
