Ideal method of representing RPG stats

-Integer
-Positive number
-Percentage
-Letter
-Named rank
-Unsegmented bar
-Segmented bar
-Sequence of symbols (dots, stars, etc.)
-idk what it's called someone help me out here but it's a regular polygon with a smaller irregular polygon inside it. It's used in Brain Age and Pokemon. (Edit: apparently called a radar chart)

    Ideal types of stats:

    -Immutable
    -Mutable

(eg the difference between SPECIAL stats in Fallout and ability scores in Dragon Age)

    -Archetypal attributes (DnD's ability scores)
-Detailed attributes (eg uh GURPS probably?)
    -Skills
    -Pure abstraction (eg Pokemon)

Addendum: If magic in any form is a factor, is it handled with its own stats or derived from other stats?

    -Skills
    -Abstract
    -Derived (eg damage, healing)

    Ideal stat calculation:

-Lookup table with few variables(eg level x character of class y will have z)
-Lookup table with many variables (eg level x character of class y with bonuses a, b, and c will have z)
-Highly variable but not random (eg bonus a gives m at level x, bonus b gives n at level y)
    -Mildly randomized
    -Heavily randomized

  • Other ideal stuff:

    Classes should...
    -require stats
    -grant bonuses to stats
    -determine stats

    -grant perks linearly
-grant choices between perks that are mutually exclusive (eg x or y gained at level z)
-grant choices between perks that are not mutually exclusive
(If the third option is chosen)
-...but a certain amount of combinations are suboptimal to a point where some perks are essentially mutually exclusive
-...and there is significant leeway for suboptimal combinations

    Perks should be...
-be granted when certain requirements are met
-require expenditure of a resource (eg "perk points")
(if the second option is chosen)
    -...with no prerequisites
    -...with statistical prerequisites
    -...with requisite perks
    -...with statistical and perk prerequisites

    -

    Race should...
-Impact stats, in an explicitly racist way
-Impact stats, in ways that are steeped in fantasy but still succumb to weird racist thought patterns (eg dwarves are innately good at dungeoneering)
-Impact stats, in ways attempting to avoid the weird racist stuff but probably succumbing to it anyway

-Grant perks, in an explicitly racist way (eg it's weird that Redguards in TES have an ability that causes them to ignore pain when they're "the black race" in that series and there is a whole fucking history associated with people being unable to recognize physical pain in black people)
-Grant perks, in a vaguely racist way (eg all orcs are good at fightin')
-Grant perks, in a way that is too seeped in fantasy to be racist (eg waterbreathing)

  • Sup bitches, witches, Haters, and trolls.
the last thing is a radar chart
