Vanity Names in Biology?

I used to have this belief that a lot of scientists who, nearing their death day with immense feelings of wasted life and time, wanted to me memorialized and have their name hold value, and as such, would commonly attempt to name any new genera/types/species they discovered after themselves to feel important, similar to billionaires naming buildings and companies after themselves to elevate their status. Any animal named after somebody in a position of power kind of let out this "vanity name" musk.

Now, I know that most of the time, the people have genera/types/species named after them because they worked really hard and devoted their life to said stuff, and people who followed their work admired them.

But still I wonder, ARE vanity names a real thing? I know memetic/pop culture names exist, like that guy who named species of Trilobite after Punk Rock people and that person who named a type of plant after Lady Gaga.
