As far as a biological component to the Force... the OT allowed that foot in the door in the first place. "The Force is strong in my family"—implying the connection can be passed down, so there's some biological/genetic component.
I mean that's a common enough fantasy trope, being a wizard is (mostly) genetic in Harry Potter too.
I don't have incedibly strong opinions on midichlorians in particular, but the original trilogy was pretty okay at avoiding technobabble and just letting things be mystical. The idea that they can study the Force in a precise scientific way at all feels slightly wrong to me.
On the other hand, the idea that in the ancient glory days of the Jedi they had all this scientific knowledge which is now lost and that's why it's just mysticism...kinda seems reasonable? It kinda just feeds into one of the biggest problems with the prequels storywise which is that the old movies just make a lot more sense if the ancient glory days of the jedi were more than like 20 years ago.
I've learned to tolerate drama...except on the boat
I'm thinking now of how we go from the ancient world of Avatar: The Last Airbender to the Roaring Twenties world of The Legend of Korra in only 70 years
Between this and Kylo Ren's cross-shaped one, why do the villains get cooler lightsabers than the heroes?
The double-bladed saber looks cool, but one wrong move and you'd gut yourself. It’s flashy and impractical, and you'd need a dangerous disregard for your own safety just to get good at it. So it's the perfect Sith weapon!
Obi-wan Force jumped out, summoned Qui-gon's lightsaber, and knocked Darth Maul into the pit
The next day:
"Master Yoda, I need more lightsaber training." "More training you require, Master Kenobi? Defeated the Sith yesterday, did you not?" "That's just it, though. I won because I got lucky. I Force-jumped over his head, and he just stood there like an idiot and let me bisect him." "Hrrmmm..." "Master Yoda, I need to know how I can avoid that same mistake." "If the high ground you have, how to disarm a leaping opponent, you wish to know?" "Yes, exactly. Thank you, Master Yoda."
