What style(s) of art/architecture is this?

* lots of bold primary colors in paint
* relatively imprecise between colors -- a bit of a workshop-like feel
* sometimes associated with US counterculture
* occasionally associated with buildings in Latin America?

    Mostly it makes me think of folk art?

    Do you have a picture handy?
  • Unfortunately, no, not really.  If only I could project pictures from my mind into this.

    The picture in my mind looks sorta like this: Start with an older building.  Something with flat roofs, kinda boring and generic.  Let it be used for years, but not maintained to look like its original form.  Let successive coats of paint, of various colors, cover its exterior.  Its current occupants, rather than restoring the building to its original coloration, have decided to have lots of fun with the colors and exterior features, painting it all sorts of vibrant, often contrasting colors.  Yellows next to blues for example.  This is all done haphazardly, with some parts looking dilapidated while other parts look like handpainted decorative steel geckos.  There might be some random murals, just because.

    Alternatively, try this: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/ab/21/9f/ab219fe0e8de286cd9a1623b1ec187b4.jpg and imagine that it has an even wilder, bolder assortment of colors.
