It had happened so quickly, humanity hadn't had time to react. Within a week, the populace had been cut in half. The skies were grey now, ash drifting down, settling in the streets, a thick choking carpet. She broke into a coughing fit, her throat raw. She could barely move now, but it didn't matter. To try and fight at this point would be fruitless. The Watermarks had already won.
