it's weird, they've got fairly big marketing money and everything but I'd never heard of them before Hardcore Henry came out earlier this year

the producer that started the company, Rob Simonds, had credits on a bunch of Adam Sandler vehicles (seven, including Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison and Big Daddy) and a lot of other fun but forgettable comedies of varying quality before he started STX

oh and the company's got that Foreign Money™ too-- they've got a production deal with what Variety calls "China’s largest private sector film conglomerate," and the investment company that owns Lenovo (and, in turn, my beloved Moto) is a major backer in addition to the original founders and its private stakeholders
