Help Jane Recover From $75 Worth of Bank Debt By Buying Her Albums 2016

Hi.

You may remember this thread from when I went to visit Cerise in Chicago. Now it's back because I need a new laptop battery, which judging by some googling I did, will run me anywhere from $50-$120. I don't have any money right now at all. There is literally 63 cents in my PayPal account, so the situation is a bit dire. In addition to needing my laptop for literally any kind of socializing I hope to do with any of you, I also need it for job-hunting, making music, and a variety of other tasks, so I really can't afford to lose it.

But, you can help!

I don't have a GoFundMe or a similar donation page (though if people really want me to set one up I could? I don't see an advantage to it though), but I do have a Bandcamp, and supporting me on Bandcamp is super super simple. Most of my recent discog is Pay What You Want. You can download it for free (and if you're broke, that actually does help, just not as much, it contributes to my metrics) but can choose to essentially donate money if you like. You can put in any amount (though if you're paying there's a $1 minimum) and I get a fairly substantial portion of anything you pay, Bandcamp, and the US Government, both take a small cut, but not as much as many comparable sites.

So to be completely honest with you, here are what I think are some of my best records, and why I think you should buy them.

• The Magic Planet Series (Vol. 1 & 2, Vol. 3 & 4) - Do you like rap beats? There are lots of them here. Envisioned as a freewheeling collection of vignettes similar to Madlib's Beat Konducta volumes, The Magic Planet tapes are some of the purest hip-hop I've put to tape.
• Rare Planets - More of the above. I kinda hate the cover for this one but it's a good record. I should give it a new cover one of these days.
• Record 11 - Probably my best album as an album. Dark and smoky and heavy music, if you buy any one of my albums it should probably be this one. Recommended for fans of DJ Shadow and trip-hop acts. Likewise if you wanna show anyone my music, start here.
• The Haunted Tropics - This is my most recent one, and it is beach-themed. I like the beach.

Some new ones have come out since then, the most notable being

• 610 BeatWitch - a followup to Record 11

OK, marketing BS aside if you could buy any of these--even just a few dollars helps immensely--I'd be so, so grateful. If you can't, show your friends!

Can't really street perform on a laptop.

Also I live far from any major cities. There's nowhere to do it even if I played a traditional instrument.

I'm not going to bank on it, but by that metric, we're a quarter the way there!

That's bizarre.

Yeah if you paid for something you should obviously not feel at all bad about just downloading it for free if it doesn't work the first time. I'll change the album name on Bandcamp, perhaps that will help.

Alright so of the $33 I raised on the first day, I recieved $26 of that (the rest I assume went to taxes. If a bunch of people buy your album at once Bandcamp tends to combine the payments so there were only two actual deposits on my PayPal, it's a little weird but I get it if you're someone who sells hundreds of records a day)

As of just now, Bandcamp reports I have $86 before taxes of current sales. Needless to say this is amazing and I'm stupidly grateful, roughly, this means I think I need about $25-35 to make it to a hundred.

Anything I make over that will be used to buy like, travel insurance.

I am not sure, it's hard to tell what was sold on what specific day because of the way Bandcamp lists purchases.

They take a 15% cut on all digital sales.

Alright so I've got good news and less good news.

The good news is I've almost hit the $100 milestone. I've got $93 and some change sitting in my bank account right now, and as I mentioned before, twitter user Gijs offered to spot me the remaining hundred.

The bad news is that yesterday as we were talking about this, mom revealed to me that despite knowing I'd been doing this for about a month now, she'd intended to pay for my train ticket from the beginning. Suffice it to say I wasn't happy, but she didn't really seem to understand why.

I'm really, really sorry about all of this. If anyone needs or wants their money back I'll try to get it to you (though I'm not sure how). I'm aware that technically these were not donations in the strictest sense since you were buying something from me, but we all know that's just a legality. 

My other fear is that she will reneg on this at the last second, as she's prone to doing.

So I'm not really sure what to do. :(

Keep the money in case she reneges. If she doesn't, then you can try to refund, although I don't know why anybody would want to take their money back.

I say keep it and proceed forward as planned, just in case she reneges. It's understandable, but I don't think worth stressing over? Not like anyone would have contributed if they didn't want to give the money one way or the other. So, play it by ear, perhaps.
