Slips

Slips are a form of soul-echo. The distant, heavily-degraded ectoplasmic remains of a phantom that has either been laid to permanent rest or otherwise passed on. Slips are thus not undead as such, but share many characteristics with them. Slips generally appear as flat, wide-headed humanoids, looking not unlike shadows peeled off a wall. Slips are not quite sentient, but have a strong desire to liberate. This is most commonly manifested as unshackling prisoners, breaking open locked buildings, and other potentially dangerous mischief.

On their own the creatures are more annoying than anything, but in large numbers they gain more and more potent abilities. Some truly massive Slip-storms are said to simply vanish, escaping the confines of reality itself.
