Lacquered wood armor with gold filigree and steel, or even better, mithril, scales... And you know the face masks on dwarven helmets would be rad as hell.
I dunno how to roleplay a samurai beyond really dumb common stereotypes.
Should I play a dwarf paladin in samurai armor or a filthy gaijin dwarf paladin?
For everyone's starting equipment, assume you already have necessities like a bed roll, rope, lanterns, clothing etc. Just spend money on things like weapons and armor.
Also, if any of you wanna do character details that aren't 100% kosher with the mechanics, talk to me and I can work out something for you so you can get the stuff you want.
Appearance: Yoko spends most of her time in-between her human and foxfolk forms, wishing not to hide her identity but also to not potentially unnerve others. Yoko stands quite tall (~5' 10'') especially for a Kitsune, and has fiery, red-orange hair. Her eyes are green. While appearing mostly outwardly human, Yoko does not usually make an effort to hide her tail or real ears (which sit atop her head in a most foxlike fashion).
About: Yoko comes from the Kigiri clan. The Kigiri were, for many generations, enslaved by Oni warlords along with another Kitsune clan and several flocks of Tengu. After many generations of oppression, the Kitsune overthrew their overlords. However, the oni blood still runs in the veins of some of the Kigiri families, and this demonic blood is the source of Yoko's mystical powers, as well as those of her brother, who is an oracle back home.
Yoko herself defies many stereotypes about kitsune. She is rather loud, very talkative, and generally quite honest, preferring harmless pranks to outright lies, she's also quite headstrong, tending to be either a natural leader, or the one most likely to question said leader. Yoko has a deep fascination with magic, and is a collector of scrolls, charms, potions, jewelry, wands, and all manner of magical artefacts. When it comes to spells, she prefers simple ones, and one of her favorites is the basic magic missile. She's also fond of music, but has much less natural talent for this field.
Also I need your help: should I play a feral, nature-based sorceress, a courtesan with oracular powers or a runaway noblewoman/occultist who actually can summon monsters?
Do we have to keep the Japan aesthetic? I like the idea of having a not!Dutch character, but feudal princess works too.
It's not strictly necessary, but advisable. You can be from any sort of land you like. Just know that characters will react accordingly, since the forbidden land's kind of an open secret that really only locals know of.
So as a general rule, people will be mildly surprised to see people from the rough equivalent of the eastern Asia area, and outright shocked to see people from anywhere west of the Middle East
There is a history of dutch traders being allowed in Japan, before the Commodore came to visit, I believe, albeit confined to one location and at a huge disadvantage to the locals.

I actually knew that, but point is, you'd still be out of the ordinary.
Name: Satomi Takashi (or Takashi Satomi, if you really want to be anal about it)
Species: Human
Class: Sorcerer (Sorceress, I guess), Rakshasa Bloodline
Appearance: Satomi is slightly shorter than average (5'1'' or so), and toned from years spent wandering in the wilderness. She cuts her black hair short and typically hides her dark brown eyes behind an oni mask. Satomi wears a loose shirt with a short-cut skirt and a white hooded cape. She wields a spear in both her hands.
About: Satomi was the third daughter of an aristocratic family in Nagamachi. Years before she was born, Satomi's father did an unspecified horrific deed that tainted his line forever. What that deed was Satomi never found out and would rather not know, but from the moment of her conception her soul was tainted with the powers of wickedness.
Satomi's powers started manifesting at the age of ten, triggered by a needle pricking her finger. As soon as her family found out, she faded out of court life and into other, less savory operations.
For the next few years, Satomi was used by her clan for political assassinations, rocketing her family's sphere of influence from minor nobility to one of the most prominent clans in the Nagamachi. One day she had enough and, using her powers, she escaped from her family's clutches.
Satomi has been wandering the world ever since, subsisting by raiding merchant caravans and luring wealthy travelers to their doom. Finally free of her clan's restrictive policies, she enjoys a freedom she could only dream of years before.
Appearance: Hatate's feathers are of a typical shade of blue, though she got the tips of her head and wing feathers dyed white before she began her studies. She stands at about average height and lower than average width, and she usually dresses for a long journey, regardless of whether she's planning one at the moment
Hatate was born to a poor family of tengu rogues, eking out a living in a wretched hive of a city. Her brightness at an early age was noticed by her parents, and she spent much of her times hanging around the handful of spellcasters in the tengu community, namely the local cleric and a druid who'd come by every few months. Though they hoped to turn her to higher-minded pursuits, her lack of patience turned her towards wizardry, and eventually she learned of the magi, rare experts of both sword and wizardry. As such, she left home for six years and trained to the point where she was willing to call herself a magus
Proud, impetuous, and amoral, Hatate is absolutely devoted to her craft and is more than willing to cut down obstacles in her way. That said, she appreciates camaraderie and will stand by those who interest her. She's very adamant about her CN alignment, and will debate morality and ethics at any occasion.
Name: Kamui Tohru Species: Elf Class: Ranger Description: Tohru is an elf of the Kamui clan, living deep in the mountain forests in small communities built over great territories, around temples hidden deep in the woods venerating the natural order of the world or in specially sacred natural locales such as peaceful springs and ancient trees. Member of a secretive and religious folk, Tohru made an early bond with the natural world and the great beasts of the wilds in particular, relishing the way of the hunt and training both body and spirit to commune with such magnificent creatures. Somewhat taciturn and soft spoken, she's generally a shy and fae creature when not indulging in her more wild and predatory moods... on which she becomes an implacable hunter. One who tends to prefer to listen and act instead of speaking, she took quite well to the ways of her folk. However, as maturity was approaching for the long lived elf, she was tasked by her people to do a pilgrimage in order to expand her borders and learn of life in the civilized lands. There she was stunned by coming to see a world she knew nothing about, full of new sights, sounds, scents and tastes... however, when such a naive creature is thrust upon the city disaster is to be expected. Somehow, one of the party managed to save her in a spot of trouble and Tohru is honor bound to repay the favor and stick close to them... signing up with the group to serve as tracker and archer while she comes to know the city.
Tohru is a slender, pretty creature with long ears, clear blue eyes and long black hair... quite short of stature and surprisingly even lighter than may be expected of her size. She dresses in plain hakamas and kimono tops, colored either green or brown to meld with the forest environments from which she hails. She also has a wolf mask she likes to wear on occasion, feeling very identified with these animals in particular. Sheet: http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.html#id=569373
For the record, for the purpose of this campaign, a list of eastern weapons normally counted as exotic (list pending) will be counted as weapons of either martial or simple categories.
Eastern weapons from countries other than Japan and unusual Japanese weapons like Kusarigama and Seven-Branched Swords will be available as Exotic weapons, as well as certain western weapons

I could never get into it myself.

That would be hilarious and I recommend it

You act like it's a secret and that I don't literally have a vase of lilies in my house at this very moment.
