    I am just annoyed at how people are treating this as somehow noticeably worse than the Marvel brand of #Content.

    Sure.

    I know people complain about the Grimdark, but the best Batman stuff is a kind of melodramatic darkness that's stylized instead of just being ugly and uninteresting.

    Meanwhile Marvel is bright and optimistic, but it's the kind of bright and optimistic that's optimized by an executive to make no one uncomfortable. If you're going that route, I'd prefer Jack Kirby bright and optimistic to some Disney Exec's version of it.
