I am listening to this random mix of "House classics" on Youtube.
I have no idea how credible (that is, close to the general idea of what people would think a mix of House classics ought to sound like) it is, but I like it. Rather chill so far.
confession: the only Swans album that’s really stuck with me in any capacity is Filth, also a few specific songs off of white light from the mouth of infinity
also mister gira is reissuing their whole back catalog on vinyl, most of you will be happy to hear that

a guy called gerald, fingers inc. and reese project are all v good, cant speak for the rest of the mix
You know every year around fall and winter I listen to the album Antarctica by The Never, and every year I think I'll have outgrown it but it still hits me hard. I suppose I am a sap, but there are worse things to be.
i just realized that there's a good chance that Anthony Fantano discovered clipping. by way of my old blog
like i thought it was pretty wild that i discovered a cool, obscure band before he did, but then i just remembered that he was following me on tumblr at the time and i mentioned them in a few posts
I've discovered that I find really emotionally interesting those pieces that are in a minor key but seem to "tempt" the listener into feeling it is going to the relative major
or basically, like some sort of constant, dynamic struggle between relative major and minor
Listening to You're Dead!, and subsequently "Deadman's Tetris" again, has me wondering how this particular song ties into the larger Captain Murphy story arc.
this also marks the first time a guest rapper is featured on a Run the Jewels track (not counting "Tougher Colder Killer", which had Despot on it, but wasn't properly an RTJ track).
I had no idea Zach de la Rocha was like, a good rapper. I've never listened to Rage Against The Machine.
Addicted!:Devin Townsend Project Lots of fun. Varied and the metal screaming works better than I usually think it does.
Mandatory Fun:Weird Al Yankovic Weird Al continues to be a polka master
Tales of Mystery and Imagination: Alan Parsons: Different than I thought it would be, but good anyway. Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether is the standout track.
Sports: Huey Lewis and the News I've heard this compared to Elvis Costello, but I find that Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. This is definitely the album where HLATN come into their own, commercially and artistically.
A Trick of the Tail:Genesis Proggy fun. Also has a song about the squonk.
Heroes:David Bowie: Strong middle and beginning, peters out towards the end.

"Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether" is good, though my favorites are "The Fall of The House of Usher" suite and "The Cask of Amontillado".
I finally got around to listening to a Dimmu Borgir track
it was
..ok-ish?
i like that the dude who plays piano on the thing has some serious chops, but all the metal bits felt incredibly generic and the orchestration was too cheesy and predictable.
my more successful peer Samuel Truth is now part of a group called SUDOS, which is releasing like, a concept album about a mobile OS that becomes sentient and makes trap music?
So, listening to a little of a 2002 WFMU performance by Dälek, and those vocals on "Spiritual Healing" verge on proto-Death Grips territory. Dude sounds pissed. I've always loved that track, particularly the chorus. "Your reaction's kinda odd for a kid who likes to nod."
I've had "Into the Groove" stuck in my head for weeks now due to Todd's Cinemadonna feature, and it turns out Wikipedia says which keyboards were used on Like a Virgin, which is good because it's been bugging me...P5, Rhodes, acoustic piano, and Sync. That weird little bell sound is probably a Sync FM patch.

I hope everyone has seen Rockwell's follow up single, "Obscene Phone Caller" though.
and i decided to listen to young fathers and it's like my head is imploding

i love when toby gives his gothy tendencies some free rein

i feel like such an #influencer right now
#thinkfluencer is a totally different thing
at a free event
that is 21+
life is truly suffering

also i listened to that new Black Crown Initiate song off their album from last month and it's a boatload of fun, melodic tech-death with a catchy, pop-y chorus thing going in.
Anyway they remixed "Bobby Bitch" by Bobby Shmurda and it's pretty good. Very TNGHT-y.
idk i just don't connect to his music somehow
good AOTY candidate though not necessarily the one I would go with if asked.
