  It took Bertelsmann until 1999 to completely merge Random House (acquired from Advance Publications the previous year) with Bantam Doubleday Dell (a company made up of various publishers founded or acquired by Bertelsmann up until the Random House acquisition).

  ^It depends. If it's a public company being bought by someone else, usually, the shareholders of the company to be acquired have to OK it.

  I would've figured that Google would have tried more at making Moto their in-house phone development unit (which was why I was so excited for it initially) but I guess not.
  

  
  

  I do think Lenovo's purchase may be good for the brand, though-- if nothing else, giving it to someone who will utilize its potential seems better than letting it sit. If they take MotoMaker with them, we might even get a good, customizable flagship phone to really take advantage of the market in addition to what we've seen already with the Moto X.

  
  

  I hope they don't go overboard with skinning if they do buy it. One of Motorola's strengths to me has always been how faithful they've been to Google's stock Android.

  It was mostly for patents, but under Google Moto's been given a bit of a softer edge than before. Gone are the HAL 9000-inspired DROIDs of days past-- in their place, more entry-level stuff like the Moto X and G.

  I seriously doubt that Lenovo will outright abandon Google's work (that would be A Really Dumb Idea) but still, might want to catch that sacred cow before it rides off into the sunset.

  Funny thing about the General Mills-Pillsbury deal: General Mills acquired Pillsbury from Diageo in 2001, and had to divest a lot of products to avoid antitrust concerns

  
  

  Among the lines they divested were Pillsbury's Pet evaporated milk, which went to International Multifoods Corporation; the J.M. Smucker Company currently owns the brand, via its 2004 acquisition of IMC.
