For those of you who don't follow Homestuck, the character described there in second person is a badass ninja bro who's having difficulties dealing with his homosexual side and holds the title "Prince of Heart". So it's really amusing on several levels...

Soooo, back to Sweet and Elite...
Was it just me or was the REAL lesson that "You can totally ignore your friends in favor of your personal goals and your friends won't find out as long as you're discrete and all the things you've been putting off doing and lies you've been telling will eventually work out in the end and you'll suffer no negative consequences."

Well she certainly placed her personal goals over her friends, but this was really important to her. So I don't fault her too much per se, it's just that she spent a good portion of the ep lying to people (her friends included) and still basically got to have her cake and eat it, too.
Well it's not like we're supposed to take the fact that a thing does or doesn't happen in the duration of an episode as a statement from the writers that everything there has been perfectly balanced in terms of karma. At least I hope not. And I don't think it's like the show doesn't push honesty enough as an important virtue.
In any case, I don't think it's as bad as the moral you could infer from A Dog and Pony Show. Y'know, the one about whining being a clever way to get what you want. THAT'S a great message for little girls.
It just seems weird that she didn't face any consequences. Especially for a show that explicitly presents itself as instructional--showing kids that trying to play two hands like that won't lead to any hard feelings or difficulty or anything is just odd. (I mean...she got away with hurting her cat. :( )
If nothing else, they missed a chance to slip in "we're hurt but We Forgive You Because We Are True Friends".
Although as far as balancing the karmic scales goes, I think this does it:
I think if they spent time on the hurt feelings aspect, it would have been an unnecessary expense of time and weakened their perceived good nature and strength of their friendship.
I think the message was more that the deception was untenable and unnecessary, and that's honestly good enough for me. I don't think you have to tell anyone that making mistakes like that at times will actively destroy your meaningful relationships.

I kinda got that it was unnecessary, and that Twilight would have understood. But at the same time it was strange that she basically lied through her teeth the entire episode and aside from being nervous that she'd be caught, nothing bad happened.
Now, don't get me wrong, I love the Fancy Pants was all like "I just don't give a fuck" about it and was really nice and the the episode wasn't just a huge cliche, but it seems, much like Dog and Pony Show, the there's sort of unfortunate implications in regards ti how Rarity acted and a complete lack of consequences.
Another thing that kinda bugged me is that no one has heard of Rarity, or Twilight, or any of the other ponies. I guess unless someone was up on fashion there's a pretty good chance they'd never hear about Rarity, but these six have saved Equistria twice and NONE of the Canterlot Ponies are aware.
Maybe Discord's rampage mostly happened in Poniville, but did no one in Canterlot notice it just happened to be Night for a really long time and Celestia was missing? Kinda a big thing when an ancient banished god comes back only to be stopped by six individuals.

That's a good point, a large amount of the energy of the show is spent setting up a Pony who is doing a friendship no-no, then them figuring out what they where doing wrong.
^^^That bothered me too, but I guess it could make more sense if the Discord stuff happened chronologically before that episode (remember that the ceremony took place in Canterlot) and the stuff they managed with Luna didn't get a lot of press due to... I dunno, Celestia's influence or something. Or you could say that the elites of Canterlot aren't at all worldly and have an extremely insular culture, which wouldn't be at odds from what we've seen. Remember that pony in Manehattan that didn't know what the fuck a rooster was?
^^Well, just because your life won't be ruined by being a bit of a dick doesn't mean it's pointless to learn how to be less of a dick.
Seems like a lot of the production of goods involved with the high society revolves around artistic pursuits in general, the main one being fashion.
But you certainly don't see them doing very much. Rarity was trying to work on a single project while taking some time off there, and she made next to no progress dealing with the time required for all those social engagements. Now it could be that there was more participation expected of her since she was new to these networks, and it could be that the ponies involved in each activity were very often not the same ones, but it seems like there's quite a bit of leisure involved for them regardless. You could take the view that a decent portion of the population there were wildly successful and retired early, or that a lot of them are involved in highly specialized jobs that don't require many hours.
Anyway, they do have that school there. I get the sense that Canterlot produces quite a lot of goods and services in the fields of academia.

It just occurred to me that I probably would have found SHED.mov a heck of a lot funnier if Flutteryshy actually sounded she does in the series.
The Fat Albert thing was good for a giggle and seemed like a nice nod to Flutterguy, but it looses its charm fast. Now, if it was Fluttershy sobbing while saying "Stay out of my shed," and going crazy THAT would be hysterical.
Same with Rainbow Dash.
Twilight gets to be funny by virtue of simply using cuss words, really.

I wouldn't call her a bitch, though. She gets a rich boyfriend; he gets a skinny beautiful mare hanging off him.
