It uses disney characters to appeal to disney fans, and make them play it.
It uses Final Fantasy characters to appeal to FF fans, and make them play it.
These two things made the entire series work, but why?
As somebody who has never played it, I must ask this question.

But I like other games from Square Enix.
Meh.
Crossovers are usually interesting. But this particular one I have no interest in just because A) I don't care about Disney and B) I don't care about Final Fantasy.

What personally convinced me to buy the game was me seeing Goofy as a turtle. In fact, that's the only reason why I got a PS2 in the first place (to put this in perspective, every other game I owned at the time was either from Nintendo or licensed; I didn't even know what Final Fantasy was). I still consider it to be the best game that I ever bought for that console. It starts off slow, but it gets more and more exciting as you progress through the game.

It actually works a lot better when you play the games. I mean, just try explaining Homestuck, for example.
Also, is it me, or should they have made a FF/Disney crossover be another game and saved the good story for a game that wasn't a crossover?
