    Technically the terms weren't "untangle the knot" but rather "separate the bulls from their yoke," so in the letter of the riddle...

    Riddles like that are very easy to lose the intended meaning, especially when the challenger is from a completely different culture.  Without knowing exactly what values and ideals the other person is looking for, it essentially becomes completely arbitrary whether they'll respond with "that was crafty and we like you" or "YOU HAVE DISGRACED OUR RIDDLE AND NOW YOU DIE".
